Position Title: Human Resources Assistant

Department: President’s Office

Primary Function: The Human Resource Assistant provides, under general supervision, administrative support to the Director of Human Resources, relieves the Director of Human Resources of routine administrative and managing duties associated with the operation of the Human Resources office.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. To work with the director of human resources regarding the daily operations of the office
  2. To provide excellent customer service to staff, faculty and students while maintaining employee confidence and protecting operations by keeping Human Resource information confidential
  3. To assist in maintaining historical Human Resource records by designing a filing and retrieval system, keeping past and current records.
  4. To assist with the recruiting and hiring process, including posting open positions, obtaining employment references and handling background checks, along with verifying and processing all new hire paperwork
  5. To assist in maintaining appropriate wage records on all employees, including computation of weekly time sheets, vacation and sick time accruals, payroll deductions, and processing the college’s payroll
  6. To assist with the benefits administration services such as informing employees of benefits, as well as entering benefit enrollments, terminations, changes, etc., internally and on vendor websites; assist employees with enrollment and/or claim issues as well as maintaining employee benefit information in files
  7. To assist in maintaining the Human Resource database by updating employee records, including status changes and other employee specific data
  8. To assist in verifying group insurance bills
  9. To assist in maintaining a schedule of eligibility for the retirement plan and submitting contributions
  10. To assist in assigning and monitoring the completion of the required training for new hires (Sexual Harassment, HIPAA, FERPA, etc.)
  11. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  12. To assist in preparing Human Resource reports by assembling and compiling data
  13. Comply with federal, state and local legal requirements
  14. To work in accordance with the policies and procedures of the college, and ensure that they are faithfully executed
  15. Lend enthusiastic support to college policies and to fellow co-workers, particularly in the presence of students and support personnel.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Associates degree in Human Resources, Accounting or related field
  2. Minimum of two years of experience in Human Resources and/or Accounting
  3. Ability to manage confidential materials and sensitive information in an appropriate manner
  4. Knowledge of basic employment law
  5. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  6. Excellent time management and organizational skills, including ability to prioritize work efficiently and multitask simultaneously

Position Title: DIRECTOR OF ENROLLMENT SERVICES

International Student Advisor

Primary Designated School Official (PDSO)

Department: Enrollment Services

Reports To: Executive Vice President

Primary Function: The director of enrollment services, under the supervision of the executive vice president, works with enrollment services and recruiting staff to develop the college’s comprehensive student recruitment plan and ensures its successful implementation. The director has primary responsibility for overseeing the prospective student database. The director serves as the international student advisor and Primary Designated School Official (PDSO). The director of enrollment services is responsible for the supervision of the enrollment department.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. To oversee the operations of the enrollment department;
  2. To create, implement and evaluate the annual student recruitment/marketing plan with the Director of Recruiting;
  3. To hire, with the approval of the executive vice president, and train all enrollment services staff;
  4. To prepare and submit the annual budget for the Department of Enrollment Services;
  5. To work with the Scholarship Committee to prepare and submit the annual scholarship budget;
  6. To submit semi-annual assessment reports on how the Department of Enrollment Services is meeting its goals and objectives;
  7. To have a thorough knowledge of the prospective student database and create dashboard reports for critical enrollment services measures, disseminating it to key staff;
  8. To maintain up-to-date knowledge of pre-chiropractic educational requirements and knowledge of existing admission standards;
  9. To ensure compliance with college policies and procedures, state and federal regulations and accreditation requirements as related to admission;
  10. To serve as chair of the Admission Committee and serve on the Scholarship Committee, Administrative Council and the Strategic Planning Council;
  11. To generate surveys and accumulate the data necessary to monitor enrollment trends, and evaluate the effectiveness of the enrollment department,;
  12. To serve as International Student Advisor and Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) for students in accordance with USCIS requirements;
  13. To work with the Public Relations Office and the Director of Recruiting on the production of all marketing materials for recruiting, admission and ROAR,
  14. To participate in professional development opportunities as needed and permitted by budget;
  15. To manage time effectively, focus daily work on key strategic initiatives and assist others in the department, as needed;
  16. To participate in annual strategic planning process;
  17. To lend enthusiastic support to college policies and to fellow co-workers, particularly in the presence of students;
  18. To participate in the annual Lyceum program;
  19. To demonstrate commitment to the mission of Sherman College at all times.

Primary Function: Faculty members provide effective instruction and student advisement for the doctor of chiropractic degree program. Duties include activities representing instruction, scholarship and service to the college and community.

Essential Knowledge and Skills (including but not limited to):

  • Doctorate in field
  • At least three years college teaching experience
  • Experience teaching anatomy including dissection
  • A strong desire to share the philosophy, science and art of chiropractic with future doctors of chiropractic
  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to be assertive and maintain classroom decorum

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction

  1. Provide students with an effective guided educational experience in the philosophy, science and art of chiropractic, culminating in a smooth transition from student intern to doctor of chiropractic
  2. Contribute to the development of the student’s knowledge skills, attitudes and competence in the location, analysis and correction of the vertebral subluxation
  3. Assist with the development and implementation of the educational program in order to meet established standards and desired outcomes
  4. Keep abreast of current events, trends, research, literature within the subject matter of the courses he/she is assigned to teach
  5. Continuously update and reference course content
  6. Provide a challenging course curricula and a supportive learning environment
  7. Prepare and administer valid student assessments that accurately measure course objectives and represent the rigor commensurate with the preparation of primary health care providers
  8. Provide on-going instructional feedback (and remediation as needed) to students
  9. Prepare and submit quarterly syllabi, midterm and final examinations to the office of academic affairs
  10. Exhibit and role-model a communication style that projects a professional image
  11. Participate as an examiner, proctor or exam materials writer for the Clinic Entrance Exam and/or the Clinical Proficiency Examination (Exit Exam) as requested

Faculty Workload Expectations

For each primary teaching contact hour per week, approximately one hour of preparation time, including office hours, service and scholarly activity is expected. For each assistant contact hour, approximately one-half hour of preparation time is expected. This work, other than required office hours, can be done at home or at school. For full time academic and clinic faculty, a minimum of one hour per day is to be set-aside for on-campus office hours, when students can be sure that the faculty member is in his/her office, and is available for consultation in addition to classroom and Health Center hours. The faculty member is also to be available when needed for school business.

If a full-time faculty member is enrolled at the college, he/she is limited to 180 hours of course work per quarter. Other work unrelated to the faculty member’s duties must be approved each year by the vice president for academic affairs and the president (e.g., outside employment).

Sherman College has established 20 contact hours per week as a primary instructor or 28 contact hours per week as an assistant instructor in classes. Faculty members are allowed an overload each term not to exceed 120% of a full time load. Overloads exceeding 120% must be approved by the president and are only used as a last option to serve the needs of the students.
