Thursday - Dr. Liam Schübel

Liam Schubel

Dr. Schübel is a true pioneer in the chiropractic profession. Born and raised in Freehold, New Jersey, he graduated in 1995 from Life University with a degree in Chiropractic and thus began his mission and life’s work with a great motivation that he has kept throughout the years.

He began his chiropractic career working as an associate doctor in Lima, Peru. With limited Spanish but unlimited motivation, he opened his own chiropractic health center and quickly became the most popular and highest volume Chiropractor in South America.  Currently, he manages Centro Quiropractico Schubel (www.quiropractica.com.pe) which consists of 11 offices in Peru. As co-owner, he currently manages Onpointe seminars (www.onpointeseminars.com). Finally his charitable efforts for Latin America are being fulfilled through a company called "Hands On" (www.handsforchange.com) that is devoted to charitable empowerment by improving educational conditions for the children of Peru


Friday - Dr. Yvonne Villanueva-Russell

Dr. Yvonne Villanueva-Russell

Yvonne Villanueva-Russell completed her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Missouri – Columbia in 2002.  She is currently an Associate Professor and Department Head at Texas A&M University – Commerce.  Her research focuses on the professionalization of alternative medicine and the politics of science.  She is essentially interested in the dilemma within chiropractic that seeks to gain legitimacy in mainstream medicine while striving to maintain its philosophical roots.  Her research has analyzed the role of science, the media and professional identity in this process.   She has been the recipient of the Paul W. Barrus Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching (2004) and was named Honors Professor of the Year (2005) both at Texas A&M University – Commerce.


Saturday - Dr. Reggie GoldReggie Gold

Dr. Gold has, at various times over the past forty years as a lecturer and educator, been honored by hundreds of professional (chiropractic) associations and societies. He has had buildings in chiropractic colleges named for him, has testified on behalf of chiropractic before various legislative bodies, and served as advisor to said bodies on matters of chiropractic licensure, registration, and educational requirements.  He was one of the driving forces behind the founding of Chiropractic College in Melbourne, Australia. He continues to lecture regularly at most chiropractic colleges and many medical colleges about the role of chiropractic in the health care field.

A 1994 graduate, Dr. Allison has been an Instructor of Clinical Sciences at Sherman College since 2006 and received the 2009 Faculty of the Year Award in October.  Prior to this, he ran a successful private practice, Scottdale Family Chiropractic Center, in Scottdale, PA.

Charlotte Babb

Charlotte Babb, M.A., M.Ed

Charlotte Babb is the web designer and social networks manager for Sherman College. Before coming to Sherman in July, she managed the web site for continuing Education at Spartanburg Community College. She manages the college pages for mySpace.com, Facebook.com, twitter and LinkedIn. She also manages websites for the Southeastern Writers Association and several writers. She has three personal blogs: Beyourownfairygodmother.com, wiseauthor.com and blog.charlottebabb.com, as well as writing the Pride Buzz blog for Sherman. She has taught composition, business writing and computer applications, as well as high school English.  She also teaches writing and critical thinking online for the University of Phoenix. She lives in Spartanburg with her daughter, a cat, and a turtle.

Steve CagenSteve Cagen, D.C.

A 1997 graduate of Sherman College, Dr. Steve is the author of The Ultimate Success Journal for Chiropractors and newest book is entitled How to Run a Really Cool Practice and make a Really Big Profit. A speaker and consultant, his passion lies in helping people and practices reach their highest levels of potential and happiness.

Prior to becoming a doctor of chiropractic, he ran a successful mortgage company and real estate office and was the President of the Long Island Association of mortgage brokers. He uses his entrepreneurial spirit and business experiences to help chiropractors from around the country create the practices of their dreams using a few simple business tips, some humor and a whole lot of chiropractic passion.

An avid private pilot and member of the Asheville Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, Dr. Cagen can often be found touring the mountain communities of western, NC with his wife and best friend, Dr. Nancy Cagen, also a Sherman graduate.

Dr. Cagen developed Successful DC Seminars and Consulting as a way of helping new and recently graduated chiropractors achieve the business and procedural skills necessary to make an office flow smoothly and profitably. He offers One-on-One personalized VIP Coaching on a limited basis.

Castellucci is an associate professor of clinical sciences and full spine instructor at Sherman College. He teaches Toggle II and Children and Chiropractic. Castellucci has nearly 20 years of practice experience and has taught nationally and internationally on chiropractic technique and practice.

Vice President of the International Chiropractors’ Association (ICA), Dr. Cretsinger runs a very successful practice with Dr. Janet Cuhel in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  The Spinal Corrective Center, P.C. is a family practice serving people of all ages and all abilities.

 

Donny EpsteinDonny Epstein, D.C.

For the past three decades, Dr. Donny Epstein has been at the forefront of the chiropractic profession and the global wellness development.  Dr. Donny Epstein is the founder and developer of Network Spinal Analysis and Somato Respiratory Integration, both revolutionary modalities promoting enhanced well-being, as well as the developer of Reorganizational Healing.

Dr. Epstein is a 1977 graduate of New York Chiropractic College. He created two successful wellness practices in New York, where he first began developing his models of health, healing and wellness. In the early 80’s, he began teaching programs, which he now teaches internationally to thousands of practitioners annually.  His books include: the Twelve Stages of Healing, Healing Myths, Healing Magic and The Boomerang Principle.

His models of wellness, spinal and neural integrity, outcome assessments and Somatic Awareness have been studied by numerous universities and have been subject for several major research projects.  Dr. Epstein and Network Spinal Analysis have been featured on television as well as numerous magazines and newspapers around the world. His work has been published extensively in professional journals. He has also presented testimony to the United States White House Commission of Complimentary and Alternative Medicine.

Mario FucinariMario P. Fucinari, D.C.

Dr. Fucinari is a full-time practitioner.  He has helped train doctors and staff over the last 23 years. He received his bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University in Detroit and his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1986. After graduating from Palmer College, Dr. Fucinari completed studies in chiropractic orthopedics and attained his certification as a chiropractic sports physician, and a Certified Insurance Consultant. Mario was the first chiropractor to attain the certification as a Medical Compliance Specialist (MCS-P).  He is now an instructor for the Medical Compliance Specialty Board. 

He currently practices full time in Decatur, Illinois.  Dr. Mario was the recipient of the 1998 and the 2003 President’s Awards from the Illinois Chiropractic Society for his work with education and training.  He is the immediate past president of the Illinois Chiropractic Society (ICS) and the current ICS Medicare chairman. 

Joy Gayler

Joy Gayler, M.M., M.A.

Ms. Gayler is an assistant professor at Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic. She has taught Automated Office Procedures for 11 years, has served as the college’s webmaster and is currently the Director of Teaching and Engaged Learning and Quality Enhancement Plan. Joy pioneered the use of blogs and podcasts for instructional purposes at Sherman College and continues to uses social media for a variety of educational and curricular initiatives.

Brandon Harshe

Brandon Harshe, D.C.

Dr. Brandon Harshe started his chiropractic blog, The Atlas of Life, in January 2009 while still a student at Parker College of Chiropractic. He was featured in the August 11th 2009 issue of Chiropractic Economics in the article entitled “Web 2.0 and your chiropractic practice.” Several interviews from his blog were also published in the monthly student newspaper of Palmer Chiropractic College, the Palmer Beacon. After graduating from Parker College last September, Dr. Harshe released his first E-book Done By Hand: The Blueprint to Chiropractic Blogging Success, in which he detailed the steps required to create a successful chiropractic blog. Dr. Harshe currently lives outside of Dallas, TX.

John Hart, D.C.John Hart, D.C.

Dr. John Hart is an associate professor of clinical sciences and assistant director of research at Sherman College. He joined the college in 1995. He has presented and published a number of historical and clinical chiropractic studies. In 2001, he was one of two individuals receiving the award for best paper at the Association for the History of Chiropractic conference. At Sherman, Dr. Hart teaches X-Ray Physics, Instrumentation and serves as curator and archivist for the Brown House Chiropractic Museum.

Julie Mayer-HuntJulie Mayer-Hunt, D.C.

A Clearwater native, Dr. Hunt joined her Father’s practice in 1982.  She fulfilled a lifelong dream of being able to provide opportunites for families to achieve optimal health from infancy to senior years.  She married Steve Hunt in 1979 and their son Travis was born in 1991.  Dr. Hunt graduated cum laude from Life University in 1981.  She has completed post graduate studies leading to her board certification in Orthospinology and Diplomate status in Chiropractic Pediatrics in 2000.

Natasha Jaskiewicz Natasha Jaskiewicz, DC

A 2007 graduate from Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic and a Certified Animal Chiropractor by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association, Dr. Natasha Jaskiewicz has made her mark in the carolinas and internationally with her mobile Horse N Rider Chiropractic practice. Combining her experience as an animal lover, horse trainer, competitor, and health care provider, Dr. Jaskiewicz offers a unique chiropractic approach which has helped horse and rider teams achieve greater levels wellness and increase their performance potential.  Aside from her mobile practice, Dr. Jaskiewicz has recently opened another practice for her human and small critter patients at Waterfalls Wellness, located in the Glendale area overlooking the scenic waterfalls on the East Side of Spartanburg.  In her spare time, she enjoys riding and hiking the trails with her chiropractic loving dogs, Jelly Bean and Ellie.

Nick Kapustka

Dr. Kapustka is a passionate, energetic, fun loving student of life. He consistently demonstrates support for the people around him, whether in the vein of friendship or with the people he serves in chiropractic. Nick exhibits leadership and passion in all aspects of his life. Whether it is through serving at Serving Life Chiropractic Studio or Poler Plunge Seminars, Nick recognizes his duty to serve life, help others realize their potential, and empower others to take action in their life. Education is Nick's passion in life and his charisma is felt by all. When Nick is away from the studio you will find him spending time with his son Noah and wife Rachel who is his life partner and fellow chiropractor at Serving Life. Nick’s personal mission in life is to shift consciousness one touch at a time.
Nick opened a home office practice just 10 days after graduation and hasn't looked back since. Six months after graduation, he was awarded the Rising Star Award from Sherman Chiropractic College.

Greg LonscakGreg Lonscak, D.C.

Dr. Lonscak is a chiropractor and professional coder that has lectured extensively around the country on billing, coding and compliance issues, as well as been an expert witness in numerous post payment, fraud and overutilization cases. Dr. Lonscak currently owns and operates a high volume practice in Beaufort SC.  He is currently the President-Elect of the South Carolina Chiropractic Association, and also serves as its Insurance chairman. He is a member of the American Academy of Professional Coders, and as well as the ACA, ICA, and the ICA committee on Insurance.

Dr. Marcus is a 1990 graduate of Sherman College and recipient of the B.J. Palmer Philosophy Distinction award.

Dr. Nalyn, dubbed the “idea lady” by her colleagues, has developed numerous events to help bring the chiropractic message to communities, including: The "Orange you glad you're well-adjusted” chiropractic awareness campaign, the Quest for Health Fest and the Sylva Ashworth scholarship which assists single mothers in Chiropractic college.  Since 1998 Dr. Marcus has designed jewelry and clothing to assist in its funding.  The newest scholarship project has been the highly successful “Cooking with Chiropractic” cookbook and has sold out the first printing. The Women in Chiropractic jam sessions developed and hosted by Dr. Nalyn, was originally a pilot for the annual weekend Women in Chiropractic Leadership Conferences.  

Dr. Marcus is the recipient of Chiropractic Career Advisor of the Year, Service to the Profession, the Spirit of Sherman awards and in 2007 was chosen as Sherman’s Chiropractor of the Year. She has been a featured speaker at New Beginnings, FSCO Triune, Lyceum Career Day, Focus Seminars, and the Massachusetts Alliance for Chiropractic Philosophy. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Federation of Straight Chiropractors and Organizations, Sherman College’s Distinguished Board of Regents and currently serves as president of the Sherman College Alumni Association.

Locally, Dr. Marcus is a 1999 ATHENA Award recipient, an international award recognizing a woman in business that has demonstrated integrity, community service and is a leadership role model. She has provided regular care to moms and children at a local women’s shelter since 1998.  In 2003, she was invited to help hometown Crayola Crayons celebrate its centennial of color and designed float for the parade. Practice members and community support created a giant orange saxophone/spine for the occasion!

Ms. Renée is the Keynote Speaker for Vaccine Injury Coalition (VIC) and former President of The Autism Autoimmunity Project (TAAP). She presents worldwide in honor of her 4-year old autistic angel, who passed away on June 13th, 1999. April realized Casi was vaccine injured, before she received the “label” of autism. Autism is 1 in 67 children today and it’s impossible to have a genetic epidemic! ADD, ADHD, diabetes, cancer (and rising number of other dis-ease “labels”) are more prevalent than ever-the evidence points to vaccinations as the cause. She has dedicated the rest of her life to doing whatever is necessary to help these innocent victims and the children-yet-to-be from the autism epidemic!

April has written many articles in Chiropractic and Health magazines. She has been interviewed on several radio shows, such as “The Power Hour”, “Radio Liberty”, “We the People” and many more. She was interviewed by WSVN FOX News and has been on “WYKE Christian Television”, in Florida. Karen Brower Rhodes is director of public relations at Sherman College, where she is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing a comprehensive program of public relations, public information, publications and other internal/external communications, including media relations, advertising, web sites, blogs and social networks. She has an MBA with a concentration in health care management (2005) and a BA in communications (1998) from Gardner-Webb University. Before joining Sherman College in 2000, Karen managed a retail kitchen store and worked as associate lifestyles editor and photographer for a small daily newspaper.

Karen was presented with the Service to Sherman College Award in 2003 and was named Media Women of South Carolina’s Communicator of Achievement in 2004. She is devoted to ongoing professional development and is an active member of the Public Relations Society of America, National Federation of Press Women, Media Women of South Carolina, Piedmont Media Professionals and College News Association of the Carolinas. She is a member and past chair of the College Town Marketing Committee of Spartanburg.

Mitzi Schwartzbauer, DC

Mitzi Schwartzbauer, D.C.

Dr. Mitzi Schwartzbauer is a 1996 graduate of Sherman College. She is an assistant professor in the clinical sciences department at Sherman and teaches classes in Palpation, Toggle and History of Chiropractic. She is active in the philosophy and technique departments. Outside of work she is a wife and mother of two daughters and several pets.

Rob Sinnott

Dr. Sinnott graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1989 with Research Honors and returned to Frankfort, IL where he still practices today.  His interests in Chiropractic are mostly known in the realm of Chiropractic philosophy, but also has a keen interest in philosophically-sound research. .He serves on several Boards including the IL Prairie State Chiropractic Assn and as Chair of the Council on Chiropractic Philosophy. He has recently published Sinnott's Textbook of Chiropractic Philosophy which offers the Chiropractic profession a clear and concise view of what sets Chiropractic apart as a separate and distinct profession.  This text represents a monumental effort in bringing the core concepts of Chiropractic to a pinpoint focus while making them easily understandable. It fulfills the need for a contemporary textbook in the education of Chiropractic students and practitioners

Dr. John A.M. TaylorJohn A.M. Taylor, D.C., DACBR

John A.M. Taylor graduated as a chiropractor in 1979 from CMCC in Toronto. He practiced in Vancouver, B.C., earned his diplomate in radiology from LACC, and completed a research fellowship in osteoradiology at the University of California, San Diego. He co-authored a textbook entitled Skeletal Imaging: Atlas of the Spine and Extremities, published by WB Saunders in 2000. The 2nd edition was recently published in December 2009. He is the author of numerous articles in the chiropractic and biomedical literature and has lectured worldwide on the topic of diagnostic imaging in chiropractic. He is currently coordinator of diagnostic imaging and professor of radiology in the chiropractic program at D’Youville College, Buffalo, NY.

Shane Walker

A 2000 Sherman graduate, Dr. Shane Walker was the recipient of the B. J. Philosophy Distinction Award. He has established a thriving family wellness practice in Naples, Florida, and is deeply involved in his community educating the public about chiropractic. He works tirelessly as president of the Federation of Straight Chiropractors and Organizations and was a featured speaker at the FSCO and Palmetto event "Get Your Practice Up and Running."
