State Licensing Boards
In the U.S., each state determines criteria for eligibility to practice in its jurisdiction by statute or regulation. Licensure requirements vary from state to state and some of these requirements apply to a student’s prerequisite education and therefore must be satisfied before enrolling in a chiropractic college.
For the most up-to-date information on state licensure information consult the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards Web site. This site provides a list of chiropractic regulatory boards in the U.S. and U.S. territories as well as Australia, Mexico and Canada. All Canadian provinces accept Sherman College graduates.
Physiological Therapeutics
Some states require additional education and/or a National Board examination in the area of physiotherapy (PT). Sherman College has made arrangements for students to obtain the required certification prior to taking the licensing exam in these states. If a student opts to take the course, an additional fee is paid by the student to the course provider.
Student Responsibility
It is each student’s responsibility to contact the individual state licensing board(s) for the state(s) in which he/she may wish to practice upon graduation to obtain the specific requirements for licensure in that state. This should be done prior to entering the D.C. program.
