HISTORY OF SHERMAN
COLLEGE

Thomas A. Gelardi, D.C.
|
Founding of a College -
January 11, 1973
Dr. Thom Gelardi embraced the true philosophy of
chiropractic and wanted to ensure that its
principles survived and prospered. He knew that
more chiropractors were needed to carry that
vision and service forward. So, with the help of
a Chiropractic Advisory Board comprised of some
of the most knowledgeable and respected
chiropractors from around the world, he started
Sherman College in 1973. He named it for Dr.
Lyle Sherman, a pioneer in the development of
modern chiropractic and former assistant
director of the B.J. Palmer Chiropractic
Research Clinic in Davenport, Iowa.
The first class graduated on September 18, 1976,
the anniversary of the
discovery of
chiropractic. Sherman College has grown,
progressed and developed significantly during
the past three decades. Today the college holds
full accreditation
from the Council on Chiropractic Education, and
its graduates practice all across the country
and around the world.
The goal of
straight chiropractic is to correct
vertebral subluxations so the nerve system can
deliver the right information at the right time
in the right amounts to each part of the body.
Today, D.D. Palmer’s vision of health care
providers trained to remove interference to the
nerve system, so the body can strive toward its
own potential for physical, mental and social
well-being, is being fulfilled at Sherman
College of Straight Chiropractic.
Sherman College has indeed become the vanguard
of chiropractic - playing a highly visible and
important leadership role in advancing straight
chiropractic.
