Health Care and other Bachelor's Degree Students Admitted as "Substantially Meets"

What does "Substantially Meets" mean?

Students may be admitted to the doctor of chiropractic program under the "Substantially Meets" Standard in accordance with the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE).

CCE is the programmatic accrediting agency for the doctor of chiropractic degree programs in the United States and determines the minimum admission requirements for accredited colleges.

The "Substantially Meets" standard allows students who meet one of the following criteria to be eligible for approval without having met all the traditional prerequisites:

  1. Hold a bachelor's degree in a health science discipline leading to licensure/registration, e.g. nursing, pharmacy, with an earned cumulative grade point average of at least 2.70 on a scale of 4.0
  2. Hold a bachelor's degree in any subject from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency with an earned grade point average of at least 3.25 on a scale of 4.0

If you meet one of these criteria and are interested in learning more, please:

  • Send us official copies of your undergraduate transcripts from all of the colleges you have attended. We will start an evaluation for you.
  • Send us an application for admission for the quarter you would like to begin.
  • Set up a personal interview; this step is required of candidates seeking admission based on this  standard.

The Admission Committee will evaluate your academic record and determine if you satisfy the “substantially meets” criteria.  In some cases, additional courses may be recommended or required for admission into the college’s Doctor of Chiropractic Program.

We strongly encourage students to consult the licensing board in the state(s) or country where they plan to practice to obtain clarification on their acceptance of this new standard. You will learn more about each state’s requirements at the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Board (FCLB) website.
