BERKOWITZ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Samuel & Sandra Berkowitz Memorial Scholarship is named for the parents of an unsung hero in chiropractic – Robert Berkowitz, D.C., a 1981 graduate of Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic.

In the early 1990s, Sherman College faced financial difficulties and its future was in question. Dr. Berkowitz generously provided hundreds of thousands of dollars to the college in interest-free loans from his retirement fund.

Without Dr. Berkowitz's infusion of capital, we might have had one less chiropractic college in this country. The story is a happy one because Sherman College has survived and thrived, and continues to teach, nurture, and graduate highly qualified students to bring the message and service of chiropractic to people everywhere.

Mr. and Mrs. Berkowitz instilled a fine civic and service ethic in their son Bob which he demonstrates daily in his chiropractic practice. Dr. Berkowitz is highly dedicated to supporting and promoting quality chiropractic care and service by volunteering and financially contributing to Sherman College as well as state and national chiropractic organizations.

To honor the high service ethic of the Berkowitz family, recipients of this scholarship must demonstrate a history of service in their applications.

The Berkowitz Memorial Scholarship was established by Len Mazza, D.C., also a Sherman College graduate (1986), who wanted to honor his chiropractic mentor, Dr. Berkowitz. Len and his wife, Lorraine, raised seed money for the scholarship fund by accepting pledges for a cross-country bicycle trip.

Dr. Mazza continues his promotion of the Berkowitz Memorial Scholarship Fund; his goal is to raise $200,000 to endow it. To assist him (and the future chiropractors who will receive these scholarships) with your own contribution, please send a check made payable to Sherman College to:
