Faculty, Staff Recognized For Excellent
Service
AUGUST 28, 2002 - Two Sherman College
employees were honored at a recent assembly for
their exceptional service to the college.
Valerie S. Pennacchio, D.C., associate professor
of clinical sciences and philosophy department
chair, was named Faculty Member of the Year.
Pennacchio began her career at Sherman College
as secretary to past president and founder
Thomas A. Gelardi, D.C., then enrolled as a
student in 1987. She graduated in June 1990 with
honors and received the Milton W. Garfunkel
Award. Pennacchio was also named Faculty Member
of the Year in 1992. Award presenter and Vice
President for Academic Affairs Laura Chadwick
Weeks, D.C., described Pennacchio as a
“dedicated professional educator” and “a friend
and mentor.”
Registrar Julie Clayton was named Staff Member
of the Year and was recognized for her hard work
and dedication to the college and for her
excellent customer service skills. Clayton
joined the college as assistant registrar in
1989, and two years later was promoted to
registrar, in charge of all student academic
records. Weeks noted Clayton’s dedication to
student service. “Almost every time we cross
paths, she says how much she enjoys working with
every student here at Sherman,” Weeks said.
