• Donofrio Named Dean of Clinical

Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic in
Spartanburg, SC, recently made several
administrative announcements. Michael Clusserath,
B.S., D.C., has been named to the top-line
administrator position of vice president of
chiropractic health services; Jon Schwartzbauer,
B.S., D.C., has been named vice president for
Academic Affairs; Bob Irwin, A.S., D.C., has
been named vice president for enrollment
services; and Joseph J. Donofrio, D.C., has been
named dean of clinical sciences.
Clusserath Named Vice President of
Chiropractic Health Services
Mike Clusserath, B.S., D.C., has been named vice
president for chiropractic health services. This
title change (from dean to vice president)
better reflects the importance of that
position’s responsibility and also increases the
influence that position has in the overall
administration of the college.
Because the college’s on-campus Chiropractic
Health Center is an integral part of Sherman,
the person overseeing all of its operations and
services should have administrative capabilities
in line with those responsibilities, says
Sherman College Interim President Thomas A.
Gelardi, D.C.
Clusserath joined Sherman in early 2000 as an
assistant professor and health center faculty
member. He is a 1987 graduate of Palmer
Chiropractic College West and a 1982 graduate of
Washington State University, where he majored in
zoology. Before joining the faculty at Sherman,
he maintained a private practice for 11 years in
Covington, WA.
Schwartzbauer Named Vice President of
Academic Affairs
Leadership and Practice Management Institute (LPMI)
Director Jon Schwartzbauer, B.S., D.C., has been
named vice president for academic affairs.
Schwartzbauer will continue to serve as LPMI
director and will teach several courses.
Schwartzbauer is a 1997 graduate of Sherman
College and received a B.S. from Excelsior
College in 2003. Before joining the Sherman
College faculty in 2002, he practiced at
Schwartzbauer Straight Chiropractic Center in
Mahtomedi, MN, for five years.
Irwin Named Vice President for Enrollment
Services
Bob Irwin, A.S., D.C., has been named vice
president for enrollment services. Irwin
previously served Sherman as dean of clinical
sciences, assistant professor of clinical
sciences and a member of the health center
faculty.
Irwin received an associate’s degree from
Southwestern Michigan in 1976 and a D.C. degree
from Life Chiropractic College in 1979. Before
joining Sherman in a full-time administrative
role, he maintained a private practice in
Hendersonville, NC.
Susan Newlin, former vice president for
enrollment services, will be taking on the role
of senior development officer in the Office of
Institutional Advancement. Newlin, who has
worked at Sherman College since 1974, brings an
intimate knowledge of the college, its alumni
and supporters to this new role that dovetails
with the college’s alumni relations and fund
raising.
Donofrio Named Dean of Clinical Sciences
Sherman’s Technique Department Chair Joe
Donofrio, D.C., has been named dean of clinical
sciences. Donofrio joined the college in 1997
and has served as an assistant professor of
clinical sciences, a member of the health center
faculty and chair of Technique Department. He
received his D.C. from Sherman College in 1994
and teaches several courses.
As dean of clinical sciences, Donofrio will
serve on various college committees, assist in
ongoing self-study and outcomes assessment, and
assist in coordinating the academic program and
faculty to continually improve the quality of
instruction. He will continue to serve as chair
of the Technique Department and will remain in
the classroom as well.
