Sherman College Awards Service to the Profession to Dr. Richard Plummer
Dr. Plummer is a 1979 graduate of Sherman College and was the recipient of the B. J. Palmer Philosophy Distinction Award. Since graduating 30 years ago, he has appeared on more than 600 radio and TV programs throughout the country discussing chiropractic and health and has addressed laymen and professional groups in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Dr. Plummer is a former associate professor at Sherman College and served on the administration for five years as Dean of Continuing Education. He also served as Director of Alumni Affairs, Student Recruitment and Fundraising. for SCSC. He maintains a private practice at the Springfield Straight Chiropractic Office just down the street.
He has served the profession in many, many capacities including:
- Serving on the South Carolina Board of Chiropractic Examiners from 1990 – 1999
- Past President of Patient Association of Chiropractic Education (PACE) Chapter No. 5
- Past Vice President of PACE International
- Past President of Student Fellowship of Straight Chiropractic
- Co-Founder of Chiropractic Health Information Research Organization
- Editor and Publisher of monthly chiropractic layman’s newsletter
- Host and producer of weekly television program, “Chiropractic Today”
- Producer and commentator for weekly radio program, “Straight Talk on Health”
- Developer and director of Success Secrets Seminars
- Producer of Universal Chiropractic Systems-Educational Videos
- Past President –Sherman College of Chiropractic Alumni Association
- Board Member at large to the FSCO
- Member of Sherman College Distinguished Board of Regents (23 terms)
- Member of Advisory Board for Vertebral Subluxation Research Institute
- Chiropractic Commentator for The Bill Drake Show, WSPA Radio
- Past Vice President of FSCO
- Past President of the Palmetto Straight Chiropractic Council
- Past Vice Chairman of South Carolina Board of Chiropractic Examiners
- Fellow of the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards
- Chairman Federation of Straight Chiropractors of South Carolina
- Chairman of Board – Federation of Straight Chiropractors and Organizations
He has been the recipient of 46 awards throughout his chiropractic career and community service. Too many to mention them by name. He is presently on the postgraduate faculty for both Sherman College of Chiropractic and Life University and currently serves as Chairman of the Board for the Federation of Straight Chiropractors and Organizations (FSCO). It's easy to see why Dr. Plummer is so deserving of the Service to the Profession Award.
