What is Straight Chiropractic?
Straight chiropractic uses chiropractic methods of examination, analysis and adjusting to accomplish the objective of correcting vertebral subluxation, a slight mis-alignment of spinal bones which can cause inference with the communications of the brain to the body througth the nerve system. Through this unique focus, Sherman graduates are able to make a huge impact on the health and lives of the people they serve by helping the body to function at its best.
The word "straight" is in the college’s name to identify it with this distinct mission.
What is a vertebral subluxation?
Vertebral subluxation is a condition in which a vertebra becomes slightly misaligned with an adjacent segment in such a way as to disturb nerve function, interfering with the body’s striving to maintain its own health. If the bones of your spine are misaligned, they can interfere with the messages that travel over the spinal cord and spinal nerves to the various parts of your body.
Think of it this way. When you’re making a call on your cell phone, you hear the other person best when there is no static– or interference – to the signal that is sent, right? Your body works in a similar way. Your brain sends signals, or messages, through the spinal cord to the rest of the body. These signals tell your heart how often to beat, your stomach that you are hungry, or your lungs that you need to breathe.
If those signals or messages aren’t transmitting as well as they could be, your health can be compromised. Doctors of chiropractic help remove this interference (subluxation) by correcting the misaligned bones of the spine, making the body better able to heal and maintain its own health. This is why it is so important to help correct subluxations.
