Military veterans earning their degrees as part of the VA Yellow Ribbon Program get a hand from Sherman College of Chiropractic.

Post-9/11 veterans at Sherman will receive $2,000 per quarter from the college, with the VA paying the balance of tuition, up to $18,077.50 per academic year.

This program applies only to qualified Sherman students matriculating after August 1, 2011.

Established by the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, the Yellow Ribbon Program allows institutions of higher learning in the United States to voluntarily enter into an agreement with VA to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The institution will wave a portion of the tuition costs in the form of a scholarship and the VA will match the same amount as the institution.

Director of Financial Aid Kathy Wilson looks forward to working with more of the nation’s post-9/11 veterans through this program. "The Yelllow Ribbon Program offers a tremendous opportunity to serve and honor our veterans who give so much to our country," she says. "We’re happy to participate in this program and proud to be able to help cover the cost of a college education for people who have served our country. I think it’s especially fitting at Sherman College, as service to others is a major component of our mission."

Only individuals entitled to the maximum benefit rate (based on service requirements) may receive this funding. They may be eligible if:

  • They served an aggregate period of active duty after September 10, 2001, of at least 36 months.
  • They were honorably discharged from active duty for a service connected disability and they served 30 continuous days after September 10, 2001.
  • They are a dependent eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill based on a veteran’s service under the eligibility criteria listed above.

If the cost tuition and fees exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition, additional funds may be available for their education program without an additional charge to their entitlement.
