Faculty Basic Sciences, Adjunct Faculty Nutrition - Health Center Case Doctor, Director of Finance

Position Title:       DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
Department:            Business Office
Reports To:              Vice President for Business and Finance
Classification/
FLSA Status:           Level II (Administrative Exempt)

Primary Function:   The director of finance assists the vice president for business and finance in planning, organizing and directing all financial and operational affairs of the college.

Key Responsibilities:

1.         To maintain proper accounting procedures, as set forth by the Financial Accounting Standards Board and its predecessor committees, for all         aspects of the college’s books 
2.         To supervise and monitor all transactions made in the college’s general ledger
3.         To assist in monitoring all receipts and disbursements and to make appropriate recommendations for maintaining the current year’s budget
4.         To assist in budgetary control by preparing, analyzing, and distributing monthly budget reports to each department and related administrators and               department heads
5.         To plan, prepare and present interim financial statements on a quarterly basis to the vice president for business and finance
6.         To plan, prepare and present all financial reports as requested by the CCE, National Center for Education Statistics, and other requesting organizations               (IPEDS Data Collections, Forms 5a & 5b of the CCE ICAR, etc.)
7.         To assist the vice president for business and finance in planning, coordinating and implementing the annual budget
8.         To coordinate with the college’s independent auditing firm in completion of the annual Title IV financial aid and financial audits
9.         To supervise and provide technical assistance to the accounts payable and the accounts receivable accountants
10.       To manage all financial records in accordance with IRS regulations and to complete all quarterly and annual reporting required by the IRS (Forms 941
              and W-2, Form 1099-MISC, Form 1098-T, Form 5500)
11.       To assist in the supervision of all of the college’s physical assets
12.       To reconcile all cash accounts on a monthly basis to ensure proper receipt and disbursement of funds
13.       To request funds from the Department of Education and prepare all financial reports requested by the USDE (FISAP)
14.       To manage all records in accordance with the SC Department of Revenue and to complete all quarterly and annual reporting required by the   
            Department of Revenue (Forms WH-1605 and WH-1606, Sales Tax Returns)
15.       To provide managerial support in the college’s café and bookstore
16.       To serve as backup to the vice president for business and finance in all areas in his/her absence
17.       To assume such other duties as assigned by the vice president for business and finance

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
  1. Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  1. Minimum 5 years previous related experience
  1. Excellent communication and organizational skills
  1. A clean criminal record and exceptional work history
  1. Ability to manage confidential materials in an appropriate manner
  1. Advanced knowledge of Office and Accounting software

Non-Essential Knowledge and Skills:

CPA license preferred
Direct knowledge of Great Plains accounting software preferred


Position Title:                 HEALTH CENTER CASE DOCTOR

Department:              Academic Affairs
Reports to:                Dean of Clinics
Classification/
FLSA Status:             Exempt - Faculty Position

Primary Function:     Health Center faculty doctors practice and supervise the provision of chiropractic care to patients in the college’s chiropractic health center in accordance with the doctor of chiropractic’s responsibilities as a primary care physician and required competency standards.

Key Responsibilities:

A.   Instruction

  1. Practice, model and teach direct contact chiropractic health care as a primary care provider for patients of all ages demonstrating caring, compassionate and ethical behavior. Provide student interns with an effective, guided clinical education experience monitoring and enforcing all professional and legal requirements inherent in the responsibilities of a licensed doctor of chiropractic and holding themselves and interns accountable to required professional, accreditation and behavioral standards including:
  1. Assist with the development and implementation of clinical education and patient care procedures that inform and advance quality assurance practices to ensure patient care and student performance exceeds competency standards for state licensing, NBCE exams, accreditation and college outcomes.
  2. Keep abreast of the latest clinical evidence, research, literature and techniques to support clinical education and improved patient outcomes
  3. Rigorously assess intern competency and case performance in order to prepare competent primary health care providers.  Assessment includes on-going written and verbal constructive feedback (and remediation as needed) and documented follow-up to ensure improved performance is demonstrated
  4. Exhibit and role-model a communication style that projects a professional image and enhances the doctor-patient and doctor-intern relationships
  5. Maintain accurate and thorough patient records that provide a comprehensive information base and organized, legible documentation that is easily retrieved for the qualitative assessment of patient care, intern learning and effective risk management
  6. Conduct and/or supervise initial patient evaluations and subsequent re-evaluations in order to develop the most appropriate plans of care for each case and to closely monitor patient progress with the intern
  7. Ensure that re-evaluation of individual patients is performed on an appropriate schedule in order to monitor patient progress
  8. Ensure that all required quality assurance measures are followed
  9. Recognize and document and follow-up on contraindications and potential complications of patient care procedures and/or co-management issue
  10. Instruct and demonstrate effective oral and written communication of recommended chiropractic care, co-management and referrals that may be indicated
  11. Role-model the importance of and effective delivery of the report of findings and on-going patient education
  12. Supervise, provide and assist with the administration of patient adjustments
  13. Document x-ray diagnoses and or other diagnostic study diagnoses
  14. Grade and audit patient records
  15. Participate as an examiner, proctor or exam materials writer for the Clinic Entrance Exam and/or the Clinical Proficiency Examination (Exit Exam) as required
  16. Report violations of the health center policies according to established protocol
  17. Assist in providing a fully stocked, clean health center and to report equipment malfunctions as required
  18. Meet faculty responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty Handbook

B.   Professional Development/Scholarship

  1. Participate in activities that enhance individual, personal and professional growth
  1. Acquire new skills for program enhancement and development.  For example, gain certification in chiropractic technique, diplomat status/specialty or some other aspect of clinical care/teaching
  1. Set annual professional goals that will contribute to the attainment of college goals and objectives
  1. Submit, to the dean of clinics, annual assessment reports detailing his/her activities relative to meeting health center goals and objectives
  1. Actively engage in the continuous improvement of teaching and learning through teaching and learning scholarship, teaching innovation, collaboration and peer review (see faculty handbook for Research and Scholarly Activity Expectation)
  1. Utilize individual and college-wide outcomes information for the ongoing development of his/her professional effectiveness and for the ongoing development of the effectiveness of the doctor of chiropractic educational program
  1. Modify teaching style based on assessment results and professional development experiences. Document modifications based on assessment results
  1. Maintain certificates and/or licenses necessary for employment eligibility
  1. Post and maintain student office hours
  1. Provide coverage for his/her responsibilities during foreseen absences

C.  Service to the College

  1. Demonstrate responsibility for shared governance of the college by providing active participation and contribution to the Faculty Senate and on college committees
  1. Serve as a faculty mentor to assigned students and faculty members
  1. Lend enthusiastic support to college and health center policies and to fellow faculty doctors, particularly in the presence of interns and support personnel
  1. Assist health center support personnel in the smooth operation of the health center
  1. Participate in the evaluative process for self, department and program
  1. Attend commencement exercises, faculty meetings, committee meetings and the annual Lyceum as required
  1. Assume any other duties that may be assigned by the dean of clinics.

Case Doctor Workload Expectations:

Recognizing the greater interaction of health center case doctors with interns and patients, the college has established a minimum forty-hour work week for this position. The Dean of Clinics will establish actual work hours. During college breaks case doctors will only be expected to work as assigned based on health center hours and amount of needed coverage. 

A minimum of one hour per day is to be set-aside for office hours, when students can be sure that the case doctor is in his/her office, and is available for consultation in addition to classroom and Health Center hours.  The case doctor is also to be available when needed for school business.


Assistant / Associate Professor Basic Sciences Department

Sherman College of Chiropractic, in Spartanburg, SC, is seeking candidates for a twelve (12) month assistant/associate professor position teaching within the basic sciences department teaching biochemistry. A strong commitment to excellence and innovative teaching is highly desired.

PhD degree in biochemistry, equivalent degree (e. g. M. D. ) or graduate degree preferred but will consider graduate level credits in field. Teaching responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, structure and function of carbohydrate, protein, DNA and lipids, metabolism (anabolism and catabolism), as well as nutrition. Salary commensurate with degrees and experience.

Faculty Adjunct instructor: Nutrition

Sherman College of Chiropractic is currently accepting resumes for the position of  Instructor for a four (4) hours per week Nutrition course.    Applicant must meet the following requirements:

    1. Have knowledge and experience in clinical nutrition and wellness practice
    2. Doctor of Chiropractic degree
