Area
educators trying to keep college tuition in check
Sherman College of Chiropractic again had the most modest increase locally at 2.5
percent -- its lowest in eight years. In a blog he wrote for the college's Web site,
Sherman President Jon Schwartzbauer said annual tuition increases have become an "unavoidable
part of the college experience in the United States" because the cost of operating
colleges and universities grows at a rate that sometimes doubles the national rate
of inflation. He wrote that Sherman was able to keep its tuition increase down by
functioning efficiently and utilizing numerous scholarships.
