New Dean of Basic Sciences Joins College
APRIL 16, 2001 - Former assistant
professor of toxicology at Palmer College of
Chiropractic Vinnavadi Chandramouli Ravikumar,
M. Pharmacy, M.S., Ph.D., has joined Sherman
College as dean of basic sciences. Ravikumar
(known as Ravi to faculty and students) is an
accomplished researcher and professor and has
particular interest in using information
technologies and the World Wide Web in
education.
As dean he will focus on further integrating the
basic and clinical sciences to enhance student
understanding of the interrelationship between
the disciplines, encourage faculty use of web
pages for posting and sharing course materials
and expand student involvement in course-based
research activities. He will teach Biochemistry
I and II and Nutrition.
I am excited about being part of the Sherman
College academic community and look forward to
helping students develop a solid understanding
of how the basic sciences relate to the actual
practice of chiropractic,” Ravikumar explains.
“I want students to gain an appreciation of how
their knowledge of basic science will help them
in patient education and their interactions with
other health care providers in the future. I
also want to help them develop technology skills
that will facilitate their life-long learning
and ability to access information.”
Ravikumar has published original toxicology
research in numerous scientific journals,
presented at scholarly conferences and provided
professional training in hazardous waste
assessment for various private research
laboratories and the United States Army.
He earned his master of science and Ph.D. in
pharmacodynamics and toxicology from the
University of Oklahoma, a master of pharmacy
from Nagpur University in India and a bachelor
of pharmacy from Madurai University in India.
