Chadwick Weeks Appointed Vice President for Academic Affairs

APRIL 19, 2001 -   Former Dean of Chiropractic Health Services Laura Chadwick Weeks, B.S., D.C., will lead the college’s instructional and clinical programs as the newly appointed vice president for academic affairs.

“Dr. Weeks brings a strong track record as an educator and administrator to this post, as well as an extensive knowledge of Sherman College and strong commitment to its unique mission,” said Brian J. McAulay, D.C., Ph.D., interim president. “She is well respected by the faculty and students, is highly visible and active in the profession as a member of the Executive Committee of the Commission on Accreditation of the CCE and is broadly regarded as a competent and dedicated professional. I’m confident she will help to significantly enhance our program as she spearheads the college’s extensive curriculum review process and works with the faculty in developing innovative new approaches to teaching and learning.”

Weeks has recently been responsible for implementing the Clinical Excellence 2000 program that has resulted in numerous improvements in the educational experience of interns and care experience of patients in the Chiropractic Health Center.

“I’m looking forward to working with Sherman College’s talented faculty and students to strengthen the curriculum with greater emphasis on active learning approaches, greater student participation in the learning process and greater student involvement in research,” Weeks explained. “I’m also excited about developing new ways to further integrate the clinical component into the students’ experiences from day one - actually getting them into the Chiropractic Health Center to observe care first hand, make observations and even interact with patients. Sherman College is responsible for educating the next generation of straight chiropractors and I am honored to be in a position to ensure our curriculum is the most effective vehicle for accomplishing that goal and advancing the profession,” she said.

Weeks serves as secretary of the Executive Board of the COA/CCE, is vice chair of the clinic directors council of the Association of Chiropractic Colleges and is a member of the South Carolina Women in Higher Education Administration. She is a 1990 graduate of Sherman College and received the Distinguished Alumnus award in 1997 and Service to Sherman College award in 2000. She also holds a bachelor of science in business from Winthrop University. She is pursuing a Master of Business Administration from Clemson University.
