United Way Honors College with Newcomer Award
JANUARY 3, 2003 -
Sherman College was one of 13 organizations
honored recently when the United Way of
Spartanburg announced its Newcomer Award
recipients.
Newcomer Awards honor companies that have
instituted an employee giving campaign within
the past year. Sherman College participates in
the United Way at Work program, and student
interns often provide free spinal screenings at
United Way health fairs.
The United Way frequently sets up these health
fairs for companies that participate in their
fund-raising campaigns. As a member of the
United Way at Work group, Sherman College has
participated in 15 such fairs this year.
In addition to employee giving and health fair
participation, Sherman College has assisted the
United Way by hosting a school supply drive and
a canned food drive (see page 5) to benefit the
organization.
“Our students, faculty and staff love to
volunteer and often give of their time to make a
greater impact in the Spartanburg community,”
says the college’s Director of Community
Relations Linda Price. “Our partnership with the
United Way has been a wonderful experience.”
