Sherman Student Entertained at CollegeFest
More than 100 Sherman students, plus many
students from other local colleges and members
of the Spartanburg community, gathered at Barnet
Park on October 25 for CollegeFest, an outdoor
music concert for area college students. The
event was hosted by College Town, a consortium
of the colleges of Spartanburg and the City of
Spartanburg. More than 1,500 people attended.
CollegeFest featured three bands -- Seven, Five
& Dime, and Dezeray’s Hammer. The event also
featured games, door prizes and refreshments.
Admission was $5 at the gate with a college ID.
College Town’s first official event was the
South Carolina Humanities Festival, held in
April 2003 on the campuses. During that event,
Sherman sponsored a health fair and a panel
discussion about the roles of the mind, body and
spirit in overall health.
Plans for other college events, such as joint
service projects, a leadership summit and
intramural sports activities, are under way.
More information about the College Town
consortium and upcoming events can be found at
www.collegetownsc.org.
The web site features information about all six
Spartanburg colleges, a list of upcoming events
at each college, and student profiles.
