Students Share Lives Through Online Journals

Several Sherman students have agreed to bare it all – sort of. Mikk Behr, Cara Davis and Caroline Getecha have been keeping online journals of their experiences at Sherman College since January. The journals are posted on the college’s main web site, but they will find permanent homes later on a new admission web site.

The new admission web site, which is under development, will be geared specifically toward prospective students and will be officially posted this summer. Until then, you can read the journals by visiting the Student Affairs section of the college’s main web site. Links to the journals are available on the main page and in the Admission and Student Life sections of the web site.

The student journals offer prospective students, college alumni and supporters a glimpse into the day-to-day life of a chiropractic student at Sherman through written entries and photos. The students write new entries every week to ten days.

Here’s a little information that will help you get to know Mikk, Cara and Caroline.

Mikk Behr is a fourth-quarter student from Denver, PA. He has a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with a sports medicine option from Pennsylvania State University and is a tour guide for the Admission Office. He loves Disney World and football and enjoys hanging out with friends.

Cara Davis is a fifth-quarter student from Greenville, SC. She has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina Spartanburg and is a tour guide and work-study student for the Admission Office. She enjoys reading, watching movies and spending time with family and friends.

“I’m excited about keeping the online journal,” Cara says. She looks forward to helping prospective students learn about life at Sherman. “I think this is a neat way to introduce them to the daily activities of chiropractic college,” she said.

Caroline Getecha is a seventh-quarter student from Kenya. She has a bachelor’s degree in biology/pre-medicine from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. She is a tutor and serves as president of the World Congress of Chiropractic Students, an organization which serves as an international forum open to students of all affiliated chiropractic colleges.

Caroline thinks being an international student will give her a unique perspective in writing her journal entries. “Since I’m from Kenya, this will be a good way for other international students to see what it’s actually like to be a student here.”
