Noted researcher and Sherman alumnus William
Ralph Boone, Ph.D., D.C., has been named
Sherman’s new Director of Research. Associate
Professor of Clinical Sciences John Hart, D.C.,
served as interim coordinator of research until
Boone’s arrival on campus in April. Boone, who
most recently lived in New Zealand, had been
serving the college from off-campus for the past
several months.
A 1990 summa cum laude Sherman graduate, Boone
brings a wealth of expertise in the area of
college administration as well as research. From
2000-2002, he served as director of research at
the New Zealand School of Chiropractic in
Auckland, and he also served as interim CEO of
the school from 1998-2000. In that position,
Boone was responsible for assisting and advising
the school through its program design and
accreditation process.
“We are truly excited about the impact Dr.
Boone’s leadership will have on our research
output,” says Executive Vice President and
Provost Myron D. Brown, D.C. “His proven track
record as both a researcher and a college
administrator, in addition to his impressive
accomplishments in the area of scholarly
publications, bode very well for the future of
Sherman College's research agenda. Under his
leadership, our expanded research program will
focus on a special effort to aid faculty who
wish to participate in research, stimulating
project proposals and an initiative to secure
outside funding for research.”
Boone is past editor of the Journal of Vertebral
Subluxation Research, a peer reviewed
publication. From 1990-1994 he was president of
the Southern California College of
Chiropractic.
Prior to attaining his doctor of chiropractic
degree, Boone served Sherman College as director
of research and computer resources. He shared
teaching responsibilities in the areas of
clinical chemistry, histology, gross anatomy,
embryology, research methodology, automated
office procedures, public health, nutrition and
biochemistry.
His accreditation experience includes serving as
a site visitor for the Southern Association of
Colleges and Schools (SACS) in 1990 and as
president of the Straight Chiropractic Academic
Standards Association (SCASA) from 1991-1995.
Boone has served as moderator for the
proceedings of the International Straight
Chiropractic Consensus Conference in Chandler,
AZ, in 1992, and as vice president for the
Council on Chiropractic Practice (CCP), a
non-profit organization dedicated to research
and education regarding the practice of
subluxation-based chiropractic.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the
College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA;
a master’s degree in biology from the University
of Richmond in Richmond, VA; and a doctorate
degree in biology from the University of South
Carolina in Columbia, SC.
Former director of Research Edward F. Owens,
Jr., D.C., left the college in December to
accept a position on the research faculty at
Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA.
