2012 Spring Quarter

(04/20/2012) The following four submissions are accepted and presented at the 8th Annual South Carolina Upstate Research Symposium (http://www.uscupstate.edu/symposium/), held on Friday, April 20 at Milliken & Company in Spartanburg.

2012 Winter Quarter

(03/17/2012) Assistant Director of Research John Hart presented his research “Analysis of the Patient’s Own Date: A Case Report Using Basic Statistics” (poster presentation) on ACC-RAC 2012, at Las Vegas

(03/16/2012) Sherman College faculty Amilliah Kenya presented her education research, entitled “Correlation between Predictors of Entering GPA, Class Scores and Pre-test Scores on NBCE Part I Scores” (Platform) on ACC-RAC 2012, at Las Vegas.

Sherman College conducted quarterly SCHOLAR (Sherman College Helping Others
Learn About Research) on Thursday, March 1. Two studies will be presented:

    1. Correlation of GPA and NBCE Part 1 performance by Dr. Amilliah Kenya
    2. Comparison of Chiropractic Outcomes: 1950 versus 2010 by Dr. Lafayette Briggs

Dr. Hart published new paper, entitled “Lung cancer in Oregon”. Dose Response 2011; 9(3): 410-415.

Sherman College philosophy department chairman Dr. Bill Decken and coauthors published their article “A Survey of Chiropractors Attitudes and Opinions Regarding Chiropractic College Curricular Content, Length, Relationship to Practice Success and Recommendations for Change” at the Journal of Philosophy, Principles & Practice of Chiropractic, 2011(2), pp10-11. Associate professor of Basic Sciences Dr. George Luo published an article with coauthors, entitled “Inhibitory Effects of Muscadine Anthocyanins on α-Glucosidase and Pancreatic Lipase Activities” J. Agric. Food Chem., 2011, 59 (17), pp 9506–9511.

(06/18/2011) A research paper of Dr. Luo, in collaboration with Clemson University, has recent been accepted by the Journal of the American College of Nutrition. Kuan, C.-Y., Walker, T., Luo, P. G., and Chen. C.-F. (2011) Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids promote paclitaxel cytotoxicity via inhibition of the MDR1 gene in the human colon cancer Caco-2 cell line.

(06/10/2011) Dr. Jaime Browning appointed Chair of Institutional Research Board. Dr. Jamie Browning is Sherman College's new Institutional Review Board (IRB) Chair. Browning is Director of the Reach Out And Recruit (ROAR) program. She has a keen interest in serving the college in the area of research. "I am happy to serve in the capacity of IRB Chair and look forward to working with my colleagues in the area of research," says Browning.

(04/26/2011) Dr. John Hart presented two posters at the10th Annual Dose Response Conference at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst, Cancer Mortality for a Single Race in Low versus High Land Elevation in the U.S. Lack of Association between Lung Cancer, Smoking, and Radon in Oregon
