Many hopeful golfers
will try their hands at winning a large cash prize during the Carolina First
$10,000 Putting Contest at Sherman’s Eighth Annual Hit ’Em Straight Golf
Tournament. The tournament, presented by Ed-Invest, will be held Thursday,
September 1, 2005, at River Falls Plantation in nearby Duncan, SC. The
tournament will be a four-person, captain’s choice format with 11:00 a.m.
shotgun start.
The Carolina First $10,000 Putting Contest takes place during Thursday’s
tournament. The contest is free and open to the public (no current or former
golf professionals may enter). Participants can take a free swing to qualify for
the $10,000 grand prize. There is also an option to buy additional chances to
qualify. Qualifying occurs from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; an elimination round starts at
5:00 and the final putt for $10,000 will happen at 5:15.
Proceeds from the tournament and putting contest will be used for scholarships,
equipment upgrades, research and endowment support at Sherman College.
