The Sherman community recently welcomed two new members to
its administrative team – Alan P. Duesterhaus, Ed.D., and LaShanda Kathline
Hutto, M.S.W.
Duesterhaus is vice president for institutional advancement. He holds a B.A. in
history from George Mason University, an M.Ed. in counseling psychology, and an
Ed.D. in higher education administration from Vanderbilt University. Prior to
joining Sherman, he was vice president for advancement at Tennessee Wesleyan
College in Athens, TN. He lives in Spartanburg with his wife, who is dean of
students at Converse College, and five children.
Hutto joined the college as dean of student affairs. She holds a B.A. in
sociology from South Carolina State University and an M.S.W. from the University
of Georgia. Hutto worked in student affairs in the School of Social Work at UGA
for four years as the lead undergraduate academic advisor, student programs
coordinator, clubs advisor and graduate program recruitment coordinator and
admissions consultant. As dean of student affairs at Sherman, Hutto is
responsible for fostering an environment that encourages and supports students’
personal, social and academic development.
