Meet the Trustees:
Charles A. Love, B.S., M.Ed., Ed.D.
For more than 40 years, Dr. Charles Love has worked in education, beginning
as a sixth-grade teacher in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools in the 1960s, and
moving up through administrative leadership in Charlotte-Mecklenburg, the North
Carolina Department of Education, Johnson C. Smith University and the Georgia
Department of Education.
Love has been dean of the USC Upstate School of Education since 1999. He earned
his doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master’s
degree in educational administration from the University of North Carolina at
Charlotte, and a bachelor’s degree from Winston-Salem State University. In 2008,
Love was appointed to the Committee on Professional Preparation and Accountability
for the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education for a term extending
to February 2011.
He has extensive leadership experience in developing exemplary diversity programs,
community outreach programs, and new opportunities for teacher certification.
His leadership extends to charitable, professional and other educational organizations.
He has authored a number of proposals funded to improve teacher education, advance
math instruction and special education, and improve teaching for higher level
thinking skills. He has worked as a representative of the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools.
As for his experience of serving on the Sherman Board of Trustees, Love says,
“I have learned a great deal about the work of chiropractors
and have a greater appreciation for the many contributions they make in the healing
process and to mankind.”
In his leisure time, he likes playing with his grandchildren, eating out with
family and spending time with friends and traveling. He is a sports enthusiast,
following college and professional football and basketball, professional golf
and tennis, as well as other sports.
