Successful Career Day Brings Students
from Around the World

by Admission and Event Coordinator Stacy Bradey

Career Day proved yet another huge success in its most recent event on May 26 during Lyceum 2012. In addition to 55 prospective students, the event was attended by their 47 guests, plus practicing D.C.s, current students, Board of Trustee members, and key administrators and faculty from Sherman College.  Attendees represented 15 states and Kenya:  Alabama, California, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Nairobi, Kenya.

Prospective students participated in a Meet and Greet on Thursday, May 24, with current students; the ROAR tailgate event with chiropractors and Sherman supporters on Friday, May 25; and in Career Day and the Roaring Twenties banquet on Saturday, May 25. They had the opportunity to tour the anatomy lab under the guidance of Drs. Kenya and Wu, and explore the campus and health center with our outstanding tour guides.

Additionally, they experienced a technique class under the tutelage of Dr. Ron Castellucci, attended a student presentation/health talk, and lunched with D.C.s, Board of Trustee members, and key administrators. They attended the plenary session and heard Bill Esteb; during lunch, they enjoyed a dynamic motivational speech by trustee Dr. Liam Schübel.

Eighteen current Sherman students served as volunteers during the event.  This is the highest level of student involvement in a single recruiting event we have had the fortune to experience thus far! They did an excellent job representing Sherman College to our guests and took the time to mingle and expose prospective students to all the college has to offer – a top tier education, sincere and friendly relationships, and the many leadership and professional opportunities the college provides once they are here.

Numerous attendees commented not only on the quality of the event but also on the interactions they experienced among current students, chiropractors, faculty and administrators. In the words of one of our prospective students, “The comfortable atmosphere, the helpful, warm, friendly staff, students and alumni were the deciding factors for me to ultimately make sure my application was signed and paid for.”

Many other prospects commented on the opportunities they had to “discuss the field with other professionals at lunch,” “talk with ROAR members at the tailgate party” and “meet others who are as passionate about chiropractic as I am” as some of the highlights of the event.

The Office of Enrollment Services would like to thank all those who made this event a success. The teamwork exhibited was invaluable to this recruiting effort. “The entire Sherman family proved once again why Sherman College is the place to be for a world-class chiropractic education,” Vice President for Enrollment Services Kelley Ashcraft Jones commented. “I am proud to be associated with this institution and look forward, every day, to encouraging another student to attend,” she said.

We are looking forward to welcoming many of these prospects to Sherman College in the future!
