Digital X-Ray Technology at Sherman

Sherman students learn the newest technology available, both in x-ray courses and in practical applications as interns in our on-campus Chiropractic Health Center. Digital x-ray has proven to be a great advance in both the information and convenience it provides.

Interns work with the X-ray Department staff to perform line analysis, take measurements, make annotations, etc., to analyze your patients' x-rays, and they go over the results with patients during a separate appointment.

The use of digital radiography, initiated at Sherman College in 2006, has many advantages that are all but impossible with traditional film and view boxes. With digital radiography, doctors and interns can:

  • xrayView and detect anomalies in dark or light areas of the film
  • Highlight structures
  • Enhance cortical outlines
  • Change image brightness
  • Magnify the image

Other benefits of digital imaging include:

  • Increased image quality
  • No lost or damaged images
  • Reduction of repeat x-rays (reducing the amount of radiation to the patient)
  • No film or chemicals used
  • No processor maintenance or darkroom needed - better for the environment
  • No need for film filing envelopes or physical storage space.

Recognizing that not all students may be able to afford this technology in their practices immediately following graduation, Sherman College does continue to teach traditional x-ray processing. The college retains the capability of taking film x-rays; however x-ray analysis courses focus on the digital process used in the Sherman College Chiropractic Health Center.
