Position Title: CAMPUS PHOTOGRAPHER/VIDEOGRAPHER
Department: Public Relations
Reports to: Senior Director of Marketing and Communications
Classification/FLSA Status: Level III (Part-Time)
Primary Function: The campus photographer/videographer is responsible for illustrating and documenting campus life by meeting the still and video photographic needs of the college and assisting in the production of multimedia projects as part of a comprehensive program of college marketing and communications.
Reflect, articulate, and promote the mission, vision and identity of Sherman College of Chiropractic and ensure articulation of Sherman College’s image, position and brand identity throughout the institution and to all constituencies, both internal and external
Initiate and develop creative solutions that address college initiatives and strategic goals and tell the college’s story through audiovisual assets
Partner with colleagues across campus to capture images and videos for college initiatives/events and publications, with preference given to the Office of Institutional Advancement and Enrollment/Recruiting; additional work will support the President’s Office, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, the Chiropractic Health Center and other departments as time and priority allows
Photograph/video various college events, both on- and off-campus, and provide creative and technical guidance; work with local media as needed to supply requested images/video and accommodate other requests
Create regular photo/video stories and similar content for publications, the college’s website and social media channels; edit and curate work effectively
Plan and produce photo/video shoots (and complete all post-production processing) to supplement college’s multimedia libraries
Take professional headshots of faculty, staff and students as needed
Maintain, update and expand the college’s online multimedia library systems and assist employees with their use
Maintain the college’s photography and videography archives
Train and oversee students completing photography/videography services in the department
Lend enthusiastic support to college policies and to fellow co-workers, particularly in the presence of students
Participate in the annual Lyceum program
Fulfill other duties as assigned by the senior director of marketing and communications
Demonstrate commitment to the mission of Sherman College at all times
Basic Knowledge and Skills:
A minimum of two years of photography and videography experience, including coordinating assignments, completing post-production duties, and meeting deadlines;
Creative and technical proficiency in commercial, photojournalist, studio, lifestyle and portrait photography and videography;
Proficiency in photo and video editing, preferably using Adobe Creative Suite software;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Valid driver’s license;
The ability to organize and manage multiple priorities under deadline;
Ability to deal effectively with the public and college constituents.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
Associate or bachelor’s degree in visual arts, photography/videography, communications or related field;
Experience managing digital asset systems;
Previous higher education, nonprofit or health care experience;
Knowledge of chiropractic.
Physical demands and work environment:
Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, stand, sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. This position operates and transports cameras and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds to locations on- and off-campus.
Mental stress: Fast-paced office environment with numerous and simultaneous demands and deadlines.
Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in a controlled work environment and the noise level in the work environment is usually minimal. The scope of job may require attendance at evening and/or weekend activities, plus occasional travel to offices, programs and seminars.
A digital portfolio demonstrating abilities in storytelling, composition, creativity, and proper editing techniques is required. The portfolio should include a wide range of images and videography styles, and consist of not more than 20 images/videos.
