2016 School Pride Award Recipient: Lindsay Carature Portillo

Lindsay Carature Portillo of Connecticut was Sherman College’s recipient of the inaugural School Pride Award worth $500 in tuition credit. The money was raised last year on Sherman Pride Day.

In her winning essay, Portillo said she has shown her Sherman Pride by participating in Showcase Sherman Weekend as a student panelist, working in the Alumni Relations office and always wearing her Sherman gear when she travels.

“I want people to know that I’m grateful to be attending Sherman,” she explained. “I want people to know that I’m proud to be part of a profession that facilitates the body’s own ability to heal. I get excited when someone asks me a question about my Sherman shirt. It’s a great conversation starter and education tool!”

She also shared how her work in the alumni office inspires her. “I love my work-study job because I have the opportunity to connect with alumni,” she said. “It comforts me to know that many people that have walked this path before me are pursuing their goals. It reassures me that I’ll be nothing but successful.”
