Next week, more than 500 chiropractors and 70 prospective students from around the world will descend on Spartanburg as Sherman College of Chiropractic kicks off its 40th annual homecoming and continuing education event. Sherman College will celebrate Lyceum from Thursday to Saturday, May 23-25. The event is held each May on the college’s campus in Spartanburg and involves three days of seminars, reunions, alumni events and more.
The college will host a formal investiture ceremony for its fifth president, Edwin Cordero, D.C., on Thursday, May 23, at 7 p.m. Dr. Cordero is a dynamic leader passionate about inspiring, motivating and leading future chiropractors so they can make a positive impact in the communities they will serve around the world. He began his tenure at the college in January.
In addition to the investiture, key Lyceum events include a 40th anniversary celebration, an all-school reunion, and a 1970s-themed banquet to close the weekend. The college also hosts a number of special events for the public, including a Career Day for prospective students, a golf tournament, and a 5K race:
- Shot Gun Golf Scramble – Wednesday, May 22, at 12:00 p.m.
Enjoy a day of golf at Village Greens Golf Course while supporting the World Congress of Chiropractic Students. Prizes will be awarded for best score, longest drive and closest to the pin. - “Commit to Be Fit” 5K Race – Saturday, May 25; race begins at 8:00 a.m.
Sherman College’s annual 5K race, sponsored by the World Congress of Chiropractic Students and the Athletic Club, starts and ends at the on-campus Chiropractic Health Center located at 2020 Springfield Road in Boiling Springs. Entry fee is $25, and prizes will be awarded to first and second place for men and women in the following categories: 19 and under, 20-39, and 40 plus. - Career Day for Prospective Students – Saturday, May 25, 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
More than 70 prospective students plus their guests will visit Sherman to discover why Fast Company, Career Cast and other organizations repeatedly name chiropractic as a top job. Attendees of this free program will learn what it takes to begin a fulfilling career as a doctor of chiropractic, enjoy lunch, meet chiropractors, faculty and current students and hear about the key roles that chiropractic and Sherman College have played in their lives. College faculty will lead a hands-on chiropractic technique presentation, and prospective students can have transcripts evaluated and learn more about financial aid, job placement and available scholarships. From downtown Spartanburg, take Pine Street (Hwy. 176) North toward Inman. After crossing over both Interstate 85s, go about a mile. Ingles will be on your right. At the traffic light by Ingles, turn right onto Springfield Road. Sherman College is about 1½ miles on the right.
