Meet the Witherspoons: A Sherman Love Story |
|
|
During this week of Valentine's Day, what better way to celebrate than with a sweet love story? Of course, every couple's story is unique, and romantic love can strike anywhere - for Drs. Anthony and Shavahn Witherspoon, it all began at Sherman College. |
| |
|
In July 2006, two new, starry-eyed Sherman students arrived to begin their chiropractic education journey. Shavahn shared, "We met on the first day of school. I remember Anthony was still looking for an apartment, and I told him about mine. A couple of weeks later he moved to the complex across the parking lot from me and the rest is history. We have been together ever since." They got married in 2012, two years after graduating in 2010. The couple currently owns Integrate Health and Wellness, PLLC, a practice they established in Morrisville, NC, in 2018. They have a eight-year-old daughter and live in Raleigh.
Drs. Anthony and Shavahn reminisced about their time at Sherman College, agreeing that Bagel Fest 2006 was their favorite memory. "We think our Bagel Fest was the best, past or present!"
It's heartwarming to hear about the professional and personal success of the Witherspoons, which began at Sherman. By the way, if anyone has access to that Bagel Fest video from 2006, send that link, please. We all need to see it! |

| Dr. Fred Rubel: Equality & Empowerment through Education Dr. Fred Rubel
graduated from the National School of Chiropractic in 1913 and became the first known certified black chiropractor. He then established the Rubel College of Chiropractic in Chicago, breaking barriers by openly admitting students regardless of race, making it one of the earliest degree-granting institutions to do so. The college boasted a predominantly African American student body, a progressive stance for its time. Dr. Rubel’s motivation stemmed from a belief in the importance of all races being equipped with professional training for success.
