"Reverse" Tours Bring College Counselors to Sherman College |
Last Monday, Sherman College hosted counselors from AutopistaAmericas, an academic consulting firm that organizes career and college fairs worldwide. Each summer, Sherman takes part in a major event in Puerto Rico. Additionally, Autopista conducts "reverse" tours, bringing together counselors from the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands to tour universities in the United States.
These reverse tours help US colleges like Sherman College to connect with influential college and career counselors who guide students in choosing their college and career paths. When these counselors visit our campus and see our offerings firsthand, they can better inform their students about chiropractic education. We are fortunate to have Sherman's Director of International Recruitment Rolando Rivera (shown standing in the photo below on the left) working in Puerto Rico, building relationships with students, parents, and counselors who participated in the recent reverse tour. This experience helps bring the Sherman approach to chiropractic to life. When these counselors understand chiropractic education, they can recommend viable opportunities for future chiropractic students who may one day become part of Sherman College.

Local Young Students Explore Chiropractic in Summer Camp |
|
|
On June 5, Sherman College hosted a special visit for middle and high school students from the Career Exploration Summer Camp in Spartanburg County. The camp was created by a college student under the supervision of Javez Henderson, director of resident services and community engagement at Spartanburg Housing. The student who created the camp, Jason Levitt is a sophomore at Furman University and a Spartanburg native. Jason's goal was to introduce students from Spartanburg public housing to various career options, provide information on how to pursue those careers, help them network in the community, and promote higher education in the Spartanburg community.
Career Exploration Summer Camp, which is two years old, selects five Spartanburg institutions each year, and Sherman College enthusiastically agreed to participate. This opportunity not only opens young adults' minds to a potential career in chiropractic but also shows them that they can receive all the necessary education to become a chiropractor right here in Spartanburg County. Through partnerships with local colleges like USC Upstate, Spartanburg Community College, and Spartanburg Methodist College, future students can save on costs and fulfill prerequisite requirements while living in their hometown.
Led by Spartanburg Housing, the Career Exploration Camp encourages future college-bound students to see themselves obtaining an education that will lead to rewarding careers such as chiropractic. With the help of Dr. Samantha Attaway and Dr. Duncan DeVolld, the admissions team at Sherman College created an interactive and memorable experience for the camp participants. |
