September 13, 2024 - It’s a rainy day in Boiling Springs, South Carolina…the home of Sherman College of Chiropractic. On a typical day, the parking lots are full of cars and there is an indescribable energy that pervades everything on campus. There is a buzz that this school produces that we all feel yet we can’t adequately put into words what that feeling is…perhaps “energizing” might do.
Today is the last day of practical exams week. Next week brings final exams. Then there will be a Fall break for students and faculty. It will be a time to restore, relax, and reflect.
Sherman College of Chiropractic is a very special place. It offers students an opportunity to learn about the body and how chiropractic plays such an important role in helping people to experience life to its fullest. It provides instructors an opportunity to impart their brilliance into the minds of information-desirous students. It provides staff members with an opportunity to support the inner workings of this 51+ year old college. It provides alumni with a place to visit and reminisce. It provides a clinic in which the public may experience renewed vigor, optimism, and better function.
Sherman College is not perfect, but we are maturing so that humanity may be best served by our collective efforts. Our maturation brings us all closer to the “utopia” that chiropractic’s Developer, BJ Palmer, spoke about in the early 1900s.
Sherman College has purposely retained as its reason for being the traditional approach to chiropractic…the location, analysis and assisting the body to correct vertebral subluxation as we know and science validates that vertebral subluxation(s), in and of themselves, are a detriment to the human experience. It is by no means an outdated reason; instead, it is a pure, unadulterated, unsullied and unmixed way of assisting others to live a more vibrant life. Sherman College does one thing exceptionally well…we produce chiropractors who know their purpose and stick to that purpose because of its far-reaching effects on humanity.
Sherman College has brilliant scientists and clinicians whose names are recognized throughout the profession. We have philosophers who not only know the history but also the present worldviews of this profession. We have students whose hunger for knowledge and experience makes waking up every day an absolute pleasure to stand on this remarkable campus.
The grounds, the buildings, the décor, the colors, the people, the “feel” all blend to make this a near-utopian place. We admit we are not perfect, but we are maturing in ways that will enable us to approach perfection. Here is a beautiful thought…you can join us and participate in so many ways. You can: |
|
|
• Refer a student. • Attend our events (Lyceum, IRAPS, Showcase Sherman Weekend, CE classes, Easter egg hunts, trunk-or-treat Halloweens, KidVenture Saturday, special dinners and more). • Become a Regent or Corporate Donor. • Tour the campus. |

Sherman students are always on the go, especially outside of class. They can often be found shadowing a chiropractor, volunteering in the community, or attending a weekend seminar in preparation for becoming an entrepreneurial chiropractor immersed in the science, art and philosophy of the profession. DC2B Sherman student Henry Duval is no exception: he recently spoke to students of the Hispanic community at Life University.
“I was invited to speak to colleagues at Life University about principle #32, the principle of coordination, which is one of the fundamental principles of the profession that says when everything works in a coordinated way, we will be in harmony and, therefore, will have better results,” explained Henry. “We shared how beneficial it is to apply these principles to our personal life.” |

| Presenting entirely in Spanish, Henry says the experience was wonderful, and he gained tremendous value from the opportunity. |

Employee Fall Chili Cook-Off and Potluck Lunch |
|
|
Each fall, the Sherman social committee hosts the much-anticipated employee Fall Chili Cook-Off and Potluck Lunch for bragging rights to being named Sherman’s ultimate chili chef. Held on Sept. 23 in the Gelardi Café, this year’s competition was fierce with serious smack talk as six employees brought their best chili recipes for a chance at the 2024 title. Chris Roberson, director of financial aid, reclaimed the title after his three-year winning streak was broken in 2023 by Dr. Cynthia Treharne, assistant professor of clinical sciences. Second place went to Dr. Armand Rossi, dean of clinical sciences, and third place was awarded to Dr. Cynthia Treharne. It was a fun afternoon filled with delicious food, laughter and great fellowship, just another reminder of our strong community here at Sherman.
Shown in photos are: top left- first, second and third place winners; top right- contest judges- Dr. Susan Donoff, director of institutional effectiveness and accreditation; Ashley Valladares, IT application systems specialist; Stefan Lawter, IT support and digital management specialist; and Dr. Brian Dooley, dean of clinics and associate professor of clinical sciences. Photos below, left- contest entrants; below right, employees enjoying a chili lunch together.
