Oklahaven Awards Sherman College for "Have a Heart" Support

Oklahaven Children’s Chiropractic Center Awards Sherman College

Sherman College has been recognized by Oklahaven Children’s Chiropractic Center for unwavering support of chiropractic care to chronically ill children during the 2023 “Have-A-Heart” campaign. Oklahaven’s annual “College Award” was presented to Sherman College’s Dean of Clinics, Dr. Brian Dooley, by Oklahaven CEO, Dr. Bobby Doscher on August 23, at the Gelardi Student Center.

“Today is about giving, and we have the opportunity to hear from someone who is always giving and helping others,” said Dr. Bourla during his President's Assembly. “Dr. Bobby Doscher is the epitome of class and heart. She is a world-renowned chiropractor who uses her hands, heart, and craft to care for critically ill children in the US and worldwide. She is devoted to teaching others that the body can heal itself through chiropractic adjustments.”

The College Award is presented to the chiropractic college and clinic that raises the most funds for Oklahaven and its mission to care for children through chiropractic and educating parents on the chiropractic way of life. Sherman College’s Network Club led the fundraiser and worked with the on-campus Chiropractic Health Center to collect funds for this year’s event. Donations were represented with hearts posted on the clinic’s staircase railing.

“The college’s support is greatly appreciated, and it has helped the most profoundly hurt children on their journey to health and showing the world they can be well,” explained Dr. Doscher. “The work you do heals children and is a living testimony of the power of chiropractic.”

Established in 1962 in Oklahoma City, OK, Oklahaven is a nonprofit organization that provides chiropractic care for children, specifically those with chronic illness and disabilities. Sherman Student Ambassador Feature: Sophie Sherman

If you ever hear joyous laughter or an enthusiastic comment coming from a classroom at Sherman, there's a good chance it's Student Ambassador Sophie, whose last name happens to be Sherman.

Hometown: South Kingstown, RI

Undergrad: University of Rhode Island (URI)

Sherman College Quarter: 5

Clubs: AlignLife. Lamda Kappa Chi Sorority

Ambassador Since: May 2023

Sophie discovered chiropractic while majoring in kinesiology and minoring in leadership studies.  Originally planning to intern in physical therapy, her options were limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, she persisted and eventually found an opportunity to intern with chiropractor Dr. Jay Korsen. This connection turned out to be life-changing, leading her to Sherman.

Sophie is originally from Rhode Island, but she considers herself a Southerner at heart and feels at home in South Carolina. Her career aspirations involve practicing chiropractic in Charleston and spreading its philosophy through seminars and workshops. Perhaps one day she may even teach at Sherman. In the meantime, we are glad Sophie is here!
