Sherman Alumni Unite to Serve Their
Community at Middlesex County Fair

Sherman alumni pictured, from left to right: Dr. Robert Berkowitz, DC (1981); Dr. Frank Hahn, DC (2004), current Sherman College Trustee; and Dr. Peter Jeremich, DC (2021).

At this year’s Middlesex County Fair in New Jersey, three generations of Sherman College alumni, Dr. Robert Berkowitz, Dr. Frank Joseph Hahn, and Dr. Pete Jeremich, joined forces to educate the public and check spines for vertebral subluxation.

The booth offered fairgoers a hands-on learning experience with anatomical spine models, meaningful educational conversations, and on-site spinal screenings. When vertebral subluxations were detected, attendees were informed of their significance, educated about their potential impact on nerve system function, and referred to a chiropractor in their local area for care.

This event is a shining example of how Sherman graduates continue to live the college’s mission long after graduation—bringing chiropractic to the heart of their communities while upholding the principles of straight chiropractic. Outreach opportunities like the Middlesex County Fair allow us to reach people who may have never experienced chiropractic care.

Treasures of Chiropractic:
A Look Inside the Sherman College Museum

The Sherman College Museum is home to many unique pieces of chiropractic history. The museum is located on the ground floor of the Brown House. Our goal is to raise awareness not only within Sherman College but throughout the entire chiropractic profession.

On display, you’ll find B.J. Palmer’s chair from his historic Sarasota, Florida home, as well as Dr. Lyle Sherman’s original desk from the B.J. Palmer Research Clinic. Dr. B.J. Palmer also had interactions with the Ringling Brothers Circus, PT Barnum, and Bailey's Circus as part of his efforts to promote chiropractic. His mission to spread the message of chiropractic even led him to start his own radio station.

This is yet another win for chiropractic and an eye-opening testament to what sets this profession apart from all others.

Full Spine vs. Upper Cervical:
A Sherman College Debate

On July 31, Sherman College hosted a SIFCO-led debate featuring Drs. William Decken and Ankur Tayal. The faculty experts went head-to-head on Full Spine vs. Upper Cervical, unpacking technique, philosophy, clinical application, and where each approach may lead the profession.

The lively exchange showcased scholarly rigor and respectful dialogue among colleagues, hallmarks of the Sherman learning experience, while giving students and attendees a deeper understanding of chiropractic’s diverse perspectives. Regardless of which side one favored, the real win was the insight gained and the continued conversation it sparked across campus.

Connecting in The Community

Sherman College Chiropractic Center recently participated in BirthMatters’ First Annual Healthy Beginnings Summit this summer at Wofford College. As a day dedicated to the health and wellness of moms and babies, the center’s outreach team collaborated with local healthcare professionals and birth workers to promote affordable care and chiropractic resources for better health outcomes.

The event featured networking opportunities with local health care offices and included breakout sessions on focused pediatric and perinatal chiropractic topics. Dr. Sarah Hock, Chair of Sherman’s Pediatric and Perinatal Department, led a session highlighting the benefits of chiropractic care for families—including mothers and infants—and how that specialized care is delivered at Sherman’s Chiropractic Center.

BirthMatters, a local organization partnering with the Chiropractic Center, works to provide underserved mothers and children with access to chiropractic care. Patients enrolled in the BirthMatters program receive complimentary services. This program has been in place for five years.

Showered in Love at Sherman!

Local Spartanburg non-profit, Hello Family, welcomed over 100 families and expecting parents to their community baby shower, hosted at Sherman College of Chiropractic on Saturday, August 9, in the Gelardi Building. The afternoon was filled with family-centered giveaways, children’s activities, and a variety of Hub City–based resources for families to explore and enjoy.

The Chiropractic Center was proud to be among the many vendors at the event. Sherman student volunteers welcomed guests and shared information with families about the benefits of chiropractic care.

From resource tables to a photo booth and exciting prize drawings, the event was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community and showcase Sherman’s many invaluable offerings.

Do you know an organization looking for the perfect space to host a community-focused event? We’d love to hear from you!

Giving Back in a Big Way!

School is back in session, and dozens of students at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind received a trunk full of essential supplies to help them prepare for the first day. With support from patients, students, faculty, and staff, the Sherman College Chiropractic Center gathered hundreds of school supply items for SCSDB this summer.

Over the course of three weeks, the center hosted a friendly competition among its students to see which group could fill their bin with the most supplies—and it paid off! From brand-new backpacks to pencils, pens, composition books, and more, an impressive haul was collected. The items were delivered the week of August 4th and will now support 83% of underprivileged students at the school.
