Interns Join the Health Center Twenty interns are now ready to serve the community and see patients at the Sherman College Chiropractic Health Center, a teaching clinic for senior students in their final stage of internship prior to graduation from the doctor of chiropractic program.
Interns celebrated the entrance of this final phase of their chiropractic education on April 15 during a pinning ceremony on the Sherman College campus, located at 2020 Springfield Road in Spartanburg. The college also streamed the event live on Facebook so interns’ family and friends could watch from afar.

Schubel Establishes Josh Thompson International Chiropractic Pioneer Scholarship Sherman College supporter and former trustee Dr. Liam Schubel has established an annual scholarship in memory of his colleague and friend, the late Dr. Josh Thompson. The scholarship, valued at $1,000, is to be awarded each April in honor of Thompson’s birthday. The college’s first recipient is eighth-quarter student Leonard Koh of Singapore, a dean’s list student who plans to serve his community in Singapore as an associate following graduation. Pictured above left, scholarship recipient Leonard Koh of Singapore with Director of Financial Aid Chris Roberson; above right, the late Dr. Josh Thompson. The Dr. Josh Thompson International Chiropractic Pioneer Scholarship is open to all students who plan to practice outside of the U.S. and is designed to help expand chiropractic's reach worldwide. Schubel said he established the scholarship to “honor one of the great pioneers of chiropractic” in the Dominican Republic.
Campus Raises Money, Awareness for Safe Homes Students, faculty and staff enjoyed a break from the dress code and wore their jeans to campus on Tuesday, April 26, for a good cause. For a minimum $5 donation to SAFE Homes-Rape Crisis Coalition in Spartanburg, many on campus participated in Denim Day, an annual awareness event and fundraiser.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and SHRCC promotes Denim Day as part of a large-scale effort to raise awareness and help prevent sexual violence. Sherman College participated in the campaign for its seventh year, collecting $732 in donations for Safe Homes for its work with the community.
Students Succeed in Practice Management Elective Winter 2022 proved to be a record-breaking quarter for Sherman College’s Practice Management Observational Elective (PMOE), with 36 interns participating. The PMOE course offers students the opportunity to spend their final quarter of study out in the community gaining valuable lessons at a host site/clinic, focusing on business practices and allowing them to see every aspect of how a practice runs and operates. Participating students spread out across the continent, traveling to 18 different states, territories and provinces for the 11-week program, cumulatively totaling more than 9,100 hours. Many of the students’ biggest observations centered on the importance of staff relationships and training as it relates to building a successful practice.
Student Ambassador Spotlight: Education: B.A. in biology from Hartwick College
Why Chiropractic: I decided I wanted to become a chiropractor to be on the proactive side of healthcare. I was working in an emergency room when I began seeing a chiropractic group myself and recognized how my values lined up more with their scope of practice and care plans for patients. I want to help all people attain their highest possible level of functioning and expression of life so they can accomplish all of their wildest goals.
Favorite thing about Sherman: My favorite thing about Sherman is the camaraderie between all of the students. Both within my own quarter and among upper quarter students, I have found everyone is willing to help so we all succeed together.
About Our Ambassadors: The Student Ambassadors are a select group of students committed to representing the vision and mission of Sherman College.

The Criterium turns the heart of the city into an extravagant tailgating party to watch cyclists race around the half-mile downtown course. This race is a part of the USA CRITS Speed Week series and is known for its open-air plaza center, dangerously sharp left turns and unique atmosphere. Local alumni and college employees were invited to attend.
