Alumni Association Memorializes Dr. Tony Duke

Dr. Tony Duke, who was a devoted and beloved member of Sherman's faculty for 37 years, passed away in 2020. However, his legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, in and out of the classroom. On September 28, the Sherman College Alumni Association planted a beautiful Autumn Blaze Red Maple tree in front of the Scallon Building as a living memorial to Dr. Duke. The leaves have already changed color and now appear as a brilliant, fiery red. A skilled landscaper and gardener, Dr. Duke's love for creating beauty outdoors is reflected in the tree. His lifelong commitment to teaching students to become skilled chiropractors lives on.

Dr. Duke served as a dedicated member of Sherman’s faculty from 1980 until his retirement in 2017. In the early years of Sherman College, Dr. Duke was known for planting trees around campus between classes. He had a deep love for horticulture and he shared this love by planting many unique and rare trees around Sherman's campus. From 1982 to 1999, he taught various courses and served as dean. His rigorous neuroanatomy courses will forever be remembered as "Duke University" by his students. Read Dr. Duke's Memorial
