Science + Philosophy? YES! |
The 18th IRAPS will be held as part of Lyceum 2023, May 4-6 on the Sherman campus. This is important to the profession, and we ask for your participation. The chiropractic profession needs leaders who integrate the philosophy of chiropractic and evidence-informed research. You can participate in two ways:
· Submit an abstract for consideration to be presented at the symposium · Attend the event and earn continuing education credit while updating your knowledge of chiropractic research and philosophy. |

| Sherman College Honors Dr. Joe Strauss |
When you think of Dr. Joe Strauss, you may think of the 26 books he has written and the impact that he has had on chiropractic. As Dr. Strauss’ health has begun to decline due to significant strokes he experienced in 2013 and 2019, and because of all he has given to the chiropractic profession and to humankind, we seek to honor him in a significant and lasting way by renaming the Sherman College of Chiropractic Bookstore. |
|
|
If you'd like to get involved with this project, get started here. Donations of any amount are welcome and the first $5,000 will be matched by an anonymous donor. Expressions of gratitude and love for Dr. Strauss and his wife of 56 years, Iris, are also welcome. |

SCCA Provides Student Support |
South Carolina Chiropractic Association (SCCA) members and Sherman College alumni Drs. Gabriel O’Sullivan, ‘01, Holly Clarke-Williams, ‘11, and Tyrone Wallace, ’94, spent an afternoon advising DC2Bs aspiring to open their own practices in the great state of South Carolina. The SCCA aims to promote and protect chiropractic in South Carolina by providing leadership as a unified voice to safeguard the future of all chiropractors who wish to practice in the state.

Why Chiropractic: I have had four concussions and chronic migraines since I was 11 years old. After my last concussion, I was told I would never be the same and should think about changing my whole life and the path I was going. Then I had one specific chiropractic adjustment that changed my life. I want to help those who have no answers and struggle with day-to-day hope like I did. The power of chiropractic is life-changing, and I am a product of that, so I cannot help but [offer] that for someone else. See Kylie’s full story here.

Faculty Join NBCE Test Committee |
Two faculty members participated on the Part I Test Development Committee and Standard Setting Workshop in late July. Associate Professor of Basic Sciences Samantha Attaway, Ph.D., and Assistant Professor of Basic Sciences Deborah Sanderson, D.C., joined 33 other academic and state board representatives at the headquarters of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) in Greeley, CO. |
| |
|
The committee approved items to be used on future examinations according to the guidelines provided by NBCE test plans. NBCE test committees bring together subject matter experts to write and select the questions/items used on its exams, according to the NBCE website. To ensure the content validity of the examination, committees are composed of faculty members from various chiropractic colleges, selected based on their expert knowledge in specific subject areas.

Foundation for Vertebral Subluxation Honors Sherman Students and Alumni |
The Foundation for Vertebral Subluxation (FVS) was established after it became clear that the field of chiropractic research urgently required researchers who accepted the idea of vertebral subluxation. Several of these fellowships have been awarded to students at Sherman College of Chiropractic. |
|
|
Recently, Christopher Long, Suzzanne Candelaria Perez, D.C., Justin Bedrosian, D.C., and Hui Zhen Lim, D.C., were honored with the Foundation's Young Researcher Award for their outstanding contribution and dedication to chiropractic research focused on vertebral subluxation. Read more.
