Sherman College Names Chiropractic Advocate of the Year:

Karen Canup, C.P.A.

Chiropractic Advocate of the Year

Vice President for Business and Finance Karen Canup, C.P.A., of Spartanburg, SC, has been named Chiropractic Advocate of the Year by Sherman College of Chiropractic in appreciation of her outstanding contributions, time and commitment to the chiropractic profession and the college. The Chiropractic Advocate of the Year Award is given to a non-chiropractor who has contributed to the advancement of Sherman College and the chiropractic profession in a significant and noteworthy manner.

The Chiropractic Advocate of the Year award recognizes Canup’s dedication to making Sherman College the best possible institution it can be, for the betterment of the profession and for the success of its students. For the past year, Canup has served as campus liaison as the college launched into a campus master plan process with partners at Brailsford and Dunlavey, architectural firm Lord Aeck Sargent, and contractors at Harper Construction.

As a senior administrator, Canup has worked closely with each of these partners to hold multiple focus group meetings, develop strategic plans for the college, oversee architectural planning, and help coordinate construction management partners. She has helped ensure a successful campus master plan, working to develop the most cost-efficient plans possible, all while working closely with campus constituents to ensure that the process and results are the very best possible for Sherman College students and the future of the chiropractic profession.

Canup has been with the college for five years, first serving as director of finance, and shortly thereafter promoted to vice president for business and finance. She has a background in accounting and earned her C.P.A. designation in 1995, receiving an award for the highest score in South Carolina. She and her husband, Dave, have been married 21 years and have two children, Raleigh, 17, and Rachel, 14.

Sherman College named its 2017 award recipients May 4-6 as part of Lyceum, an annual continuing education and homecoming event attended by hundreds of chiropractors and students throughout the U.S. and internationally. Lyceum is held on the college’s campus in Spartanburg, SC, and involves three days of seminars, special events, and other programs.
