Off-Campus Experiential Learning Host Site Application

Sherman College of Chiropractic offers two experiential learning opportunities through approved host practices: the Practice Management Observation Elective (PMOE) and the Sherman Training Experience Program (STEP).

The information provided through this application will be used to evaluate the submitted practice as a potential experiential learning site. Following approval of the application and identification of a student for placement, Sherman College will determine which program best aligns with the host site, student needs, geographic availability, and applicable requirements.

Experiential Learning Programs

Practice Management Observation Elective (PMOE)
PMOE is available to approved host sites throughout the United States and internationally. This observational experience focuses on practice operations, patient education, communication, office systems, and the day-to-day management of a chiropractic practice. PMOE students do not participate in clinical patient care.

Sherman Training Experience Program (STEP)
STEP is a clinically focused experience that allows eligible students to develop skills related to patient care and patient management under the direct guidance and supervision of an approved host doctor. Because clinical participation is governed by state or jurisdictional requirements, STEP is currently available only in select geographic areas and through specifically approved host sites.

Submission of this application does not guarantee approval, student placement, or participation in a specific program.

Before You Begin

Before beginning the application, please have current electronic copies of the following documents available for upload:

  • Chiropractic License

Additional documentation may be required if the practice is considered for participation in STEP.

For Approval

It is recommended that host doctors have a minimum of three years of practice experience, maintain office hours totaling at least 30 hours per week, and average at least 400 patient visits per month. Practices that do not meet these recommended standards may still be considered and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Approval as an experiential learning host site requires that the doctor’s practice objective and professional conduct support the mission of Sherman College of Chiropractic.
