Sherman College of Chiropractic honored alumni, chiropractors, and supporters during its 51st Lyceum event, a homecoming and continuing education event attended by hundreds throughout the U.S. and internationally. Lyceum is held annually for three days, consisting of seminars, special events, and other programs. Over 800 individuals participated in this year’s event, held May 3-5 on the Sherman campus in Spartanburg. The college is proud to announce recipients of Sherman’s 13 prestigious Lyceum awards.

Mother and daughter Stephanie Foisy Ryan, D.C., C.C.W.P., and Brook Mills, D.C., are passionate chiropractors who advocate the benefits of chiropractic care in their communities locally, as well as nationally and globally.

The Service to the Profession Award is presented to an individual or individuals who demonstrate extraordinary, unselfish, and noteworthy service to the chiropractic profession.

Dr. Ryan is a distinguished chiropractor, earning her Bachelor of Science degree summa cum laude from Regent’s College and graduating with the same honor from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, in 2000. Throughout her academic journey, Dr. Ryan achieved recognition on the President’s List, received the Presidential Scholar award, and was inducted into the Chiropractic Honor Fraternity.

Following her graduation, Dr. Ryan founded Crossroads Chiropractic, which has since expanded to four locations across New Hampshire. She holds the distinction of being the first chiropractor in the state to earn the C.C.W.P. credentials from the International Chiropractic Association and is certified in the Webster Technique by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA).

A sought-after speaker, Dr. Ryan has shared her expertise nationally for esteemed organizations such as Parker Seminars, the International Chiropractic Association, the Texas Chiropractic Association, and the ICPA, among others.  Committed to serving underserved communities, she has participated in six chiropractic mission trips to Bolivia, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the Ft. Peck Indian Reservation.

In recognition of her leadership and expertise, Dr. Ryan was appointed by the Governor to serve on the New Hampshire Board of Chiropractic Examiners in October 2020. Additionally, she has hosted the “Half Hour to Health” radio show on WTPL 107.7 FM since 2008, championing chiropractic awareness and education in her community for over two decades.

Dr. Brooke Mills, a 2023 Sherman College graduate, continues her mother’s legacy as a devoted and influential chiropractor. At Sherman, Dr. Mills was honored as a graduation class speaker and received prestigious accolades, including the BJ Palmer Philosophy Award and the Service Distinction Award.

Since January 2020, Dr. Mills has been deeply involved with the Foundation of Vertebral Subluxation, initially serving as a research fellow, event coordinator, and student liaison before assuming the role of executive director. Additionally, she made history as Miss New Hampshire 2023, becoming the first chiropractor to grace the Miss America stage in January of the same year.

Passionate about education and advocacy, Dr. Mills co-hosts the “Half Hour to Health” podcast with her mother, Dr. Ryan, and recently embarked on a new chapter by opening her first office alongside her fiancé, Dr. John Schuessler, with whom she graduated from Sherman College.

Dr. Mill’s advocacy extends beyond chiropractic care; she is dedicated to serving the brain injury community, drawing from her own experience with a brain injury in 2014. Through her school program, “Choose Health,” she promotes healthy lifestyle choices, while her practice focuses on providing subluxation-based chiropractic care to families. Her commitment to service and advocacy exemplifies her dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
