Stetzel and Ortiz to Represent Sherman at Talk the TIC

Danielle Stetzel and Christian Ortiz took top honors in Sherman College’s Talk the TIC Competition on April 12, with Stetzel winning the English talk and Ortiz winning the Spanish talk. Both students will advance to the world finals at Life University on May 17.

The annual competition challenges students to deliver a persuasive presentation in five minutes or less. Judges evaluate participants on their ability to inspire action. This year’s panel included Sherman College Domestic and International Recruiter Lina Guillen-Sucre, Philosophy Department Chair Bill Decken, D.C., D.Ph.CS, and Director of Evidence-Informed Curriculum and Practice Christopher Kent, D.C., J.D.

Ortiz was also among seven students recognized with Sherman Pride Awards, earning a $500 tuition credit for the winter 2018 quarter. As a 10th-quarter student and Ambassador, Ortiz submitted a video slideshow highlighting how he has shared his Sherman Pride with others. “We found a way to spread the word about Sherman around the world by showing our Sherman Pride everywhere we go,” he said.

Stetzel comes from a family of chiropractors connected to Sherman College. Her father, Greg, is a 1983 graduate, her mother, Kim, serves on the Board of Trustees, and her brother, Billy, recently graduated from Sherman College.

The Talk the ‘Tic Competition helps future chiropractors improve their communication skills with patients. Being an effective speaker makes patients feel more comfortable, encourages them to ask questions, and increases the likelihood they will return for future care.
