Undergrad Majors to Help You Prepare for a Career in Chiropractic
Deciding to become a chiropractor is an exciting and significant choice! We talk with students every day, from all walks of life, who have decided to follow their dream of becoming a chiropractor. These students range from high schoolers to individuals in their mid-50s. For high school students or those currently in college, one of the first questions we often hear is, “What should I major in if I want to go to chiropractic school?”
Many people are surprised to learn that there isn’t a single “best” major. Chiropractic college is filled with science courses, so almost any science-related major can be helpful. While it’s not ideal, some students even arrive with business degrees or degrees in other fields. This might be because they chose chiropractic later in life or when it was too late to change their major. Usually, these students need to take a few extra science classes before enrolling.
What chiropractic schools focus on, and what is most important, is that you fulfill the minimum admissions requirements of obtaining 24 hours of life and physical sciences, with half of those containing a lab.
If you’re deciding on a college major and want to become a chiropractor or pursue a career in health, here is a list of majors that could be most helpful to you.
- Health Sciences
- Sports Medicine / Athletic Training
- Human Biology / Biology
- Exercise Science
- Biomedical Sciences
- Kinesiology
- Chemistry
- Pre-Chiropractic (if offered by your school)
Our admissions counselors work daily with students to help them meet our entrance requirements. If you already have a bachelor’s degree, we’re happy to assist you too, but you will still need to fulfill all the same admissions criteria. If you have any questions, our team is here to support you every step of the way on your journey to becoming a Doctor of Chiropractic.
