Alumni of the Week: Alan Brewster

Alumni of the week Dr. Alan Brewster, Class of 1989

Graduation Year: 1989

Current Location:  Spartanburg, SC

Years in Practice: 33 years, although I only practice part-time now.

How do you stay connected to Sherman College? I work here in the research and clinical sciences department. When I was still in full-time practice, I attended Lyceum and IRAPS and served on the Board of Trustees.

Most Memorable Classmate: Paul. He was an inspiration and a friend.

Favorite Sherman College Instructor: There were so many! I can narrow it down to a tie between Dr. Claudia Seay in the clinic and Dr. Sheldon Clayton in anatomy. They are both brilliant, engaging, and creative instructors who inspired me.

Fun Memory: I had the opportunity to travel to Australia to represent Sherman at the World Congress of Chiropractic Students. It was an eye-opening experience to bring Sherman to a “world” stage, discuss issues of real significance, discover a new country, and learn some Spanish from Octavio Terrazas on the 20-hour trip!

Favorite Lyceum Memory: The most memorable was Lyceum 2013 when Dr. Thom Gelardi spoke under the tent. He stated that chiropractic research should focus not on disease care, but on the adjustment and the subluxation itself.

What has been the best improvement to Sherman you have seen since you were a student?  Research opportunities for faculty and students, a variety of adjusting technique electives and seminars on campus, and impressive new and remodeled buildings/facilities.

What would you like to see for Sherman College?  I look forward to even greater research on campus – maybe even a dedicated research wing of the clinic.
