Dr. Gordon Brown and the late Helen McPike Brown Named Regents of the Year by Sherman College

Boiling Springs, SC, retired chiropractor Gordon Brown, D.C., and the late Helen McPike Brown, D.C.H., have been named Regents of the Year by Sherman College of Chiropractic. This award is presented in recognition of the couple’s outstanding and continuous advancement of Sherman College through participation on the college’s Board of Regents, a group dedicated to supporting quality chiropractic education through financial donations and leadership. Regents give visibility and stature to Sherman College through speaking engagements, legislative roles, student referrals, and financial support.
Dr. Gordon Brown is a 1942 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic who practiced in Louisville, KY, and in Logansport, IN. He was instrumental in getting the laws changed in Indiana to allow chiropractors to practice. He currently serves as an ex-oficio member of the Sherman College Board of Trustees. The late Helen McPike Brown was a talented artist and a passionate supporter of chiropractic. Though not a chiropractor herself, Mrs. Brown came from a chiropractic family and had a rare appreciation of the profession’s philosophy and a unique commitment to sharing it with others.
The couple have supported and contributed generously to Sherman College in many ways over the years, including serving as Regents, making a generous estate commitment to the Endowment Trust, donating their home in Arizona to fund and construct the Brown House and Museum on the college’s campus, and setting up a $225,000 charitable gift annuity with Sherman College as the beneficiary.
“Although no one could question the Browns’ financial commitment to Sherman College, I believe their most valuable contributions have been their support, their guidance, and their loyalty,” said Sherman President Edwin Cordero, D.C., of the couple.
Sherman College named its 2018 award recipients May 3-5 as part of Lyceum, an annual continuing education and homecoming event attended by hundreds of chiropractors and students throughout the U.S. and internationally. Lyceum is held each spring in Spartanburg, SC, and involves three days of seminars, special events, and other programs; this year more than 700 were in attendance.
