Research Faculty

Classification/FLSA Status:             N/A (Exempt/ PT) (Faculty Position)

Primary Function:     Research faculty conduct independent and collaborative research with the Center for Research and Scholarly Activity, present and publish with Sherman College affiliation, support faculty and students in their research specialty, and prepare and present instructional modules and/or courses.

Key Responsibilities:          

1. To lead independent and campus-based scholarly activities, focused on clinical, didactic, basic science, historical, and/or body-of-knowledge research related to chiropractic. Expectations include developing, conducting, presenting, and publishing novel research on a regular basis.
2. To prepare and deliver applicable courses, instructional modules, and learning media, related to their research and Sherman’s Doctor of Chiropractic Program (DCP) as directed by the Director of Research and Scholarly Activity.
3. To assist in the supervision of student-conducted research projects
4. To report to the Director of the Center for Research and Scholarly Activity on anticipated budgetary needs for projects under their supervision
5. To maintain research databases or equipment used in the research center
6. Lend enthusiastic support to college policies and to fellow co-workers, particularly in the presence of students and support personnel.
7. Participate in the annual Lyceum and IRAPS programs, as well as off-campus research and CE events.
8. To assume such other duties as assigned by the Director of the Center for Research and Scholarly Activity
9. Commitment to the mission of Sherman College and support of The Sherman Chiropractor in any way correlated to the position

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

1. Doctoral degree preferred, master’s degree with experience will be considered; and/or first professional degree
2. Experience in research, including innovative research, publications in peer-reviewed journals, and presentations
3. Computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets and statistics)
4. Communication skills, particularly in academic and professional instructional settings; and experience in scholarly writing.
5. Organizational skills
6. Knowledge of chiropractic, supported by either clinical practice or research

Physical demands and work environment:

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus and discern color.

Work environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee works in a controlled work environment and the noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
