Alumni Stories

Meet Sherman College Alumni

You can tell a lot about a chiropractic college by its graduates and their stories. At Sherman College, we are extremely proud of our nearly 4,000 alumni who practice around the world. Here are a few of our featured alumni; check back soon, as we add new profiles often!

“I love being in practice. I don’t know of many people who love their job as much as I do. Sherman helped show me the true foundation of chiropractic and the healing capabilities of our bodies. Over the last 10 years since I have graduated, they have only expanded their on-campus and off-campus resources for their students and alumni. ”

Dr. Jamielee Shanahan, ’10

South Carolina

“The best thing about being an animal chiropractor is being witness to miraculous outcomes every day. It was a long road to get here, but every time you are able to save another animal’s life through chiropractic care, it makes all the years of hard work worth it.”

Dr. Shannon Ruff, ’18

South Carolina

I had multiple health issues that eased dramatically and continued to improve with regular chiropractic care. I wanted to give that hope for improvement to others in similar circumstances. There are few things more rewarding in practice than watching someone limp into your office one day and be back on the field or court the next.”

Dr. Jeremy Bowman, ’18

South Carolina

“I knew I wanted a career in the health field, but I did not know what I wanted to do specifically. My advisor is an alumnus of Sherman, and he told me about chiropractic. He explained that this would be an excellent career path for me because of my interest in helping people in a natural way. Chiropractic has given me opportunities and abilities that can help people in a way that changes their lives for the better.”

Dr. Alnessa Hickmon, ’18

Missouri

“There is no way to put a value on this degree. The experience I have gained as an entrepreneur has been tremendous, but the difference between us and a regular business entrepreneur is that we are backed by the best profession in the world. We are sharing hope, health, healing, and above all self-empowerment. The ability we have as chiropractors to positively influence our patients any other profession.”

Dr. Molly Spohn, ’19

South Carolina

“I have loved every day of chiropractic practice in Singapore since 2016. I feel like each patient has their own unique story being written when they get checked, so I am glad that chiropractic care forms part of that story, too, for better health outcomes. Just seeing a smile from these patients gives me great joy. The beauty of chiropractic is looking into the root cause, rather than treating the symptoms.”

Dr. Ashley Liew, ’16

Singapore

“My favorite part of this career is when I randomly answer the phone and hear the need in someone’s voice, especially someone who is doubting that chiropractic will work for them. When I can help the most difficult case I’ve ever seen, someone who can barely stand to be touched, who then shows incredible hope for their own future; this is my cherry on top.”

Dr. Cassandra Peterson, ’08

Hawaii

“I love teaching soon-to-be Doctors of Chiropractic. I bring my practice experience into the classroom to help students integrate theory with application. And by teaching a Blair elective, I have guided students to careers as Blair docs. I have the best of both worlds. My service to students and patients is an extension of my ministry.”

Dr. Charmaine Herman, ’09

Georgia

“As our professional charity events grew, we decided to turn them into a non-profit, through which we have now raised $700,000 for local charities. It has been amazing to see how the idea of a weekly run club to meet people has grown into this opportunity to support our local community for the past 11 years.”

Drs. Rick Florez and Elizabeth Pagano, ’04 and ’07
