Sherman College alumni and friends at a dinner event in Horsham, PA, celebrated last week as their donations put Sherman College of Chiropractic’s student clinic campaign over the top of its $75,000 fund-raising goal. The campaign, which launched in April at the college’s annual homecoming event (Lyceum) will provide modern equipment, upgraded technology and greater opportunities for chiropractic interns to hone their adjusting skills. More than $32,000 was raised during the Lyceum kick-off for the campaign, with an additional $15,000 later donated by the Global Gateway Foundation.

“It was wonderful to celebrate this achievement with graduates and friends who truly understand the impact of the gifts they made and how this initiative will improve student learning in our Chiropractic Health Center,” said Executive Vice President Neil Cohen, D.C., who represented the college at the Pennsylvania event. “President [Dr. Edwin] Cordero and I are working to make Sherman College the preeminent chiropractic college in the world, and this is yet another step building our momentum in that direction.”

The Chiropractic Health Center is a specialized learning environment where skills gained in the classroom are practiced and honed under the guidance of health center faculty. The Student Clinic serves as the interns’ first stage of the clinical experience. The teaching environment, coordinated by licensed and experienced doctors, allows interns to practice chiropractic under close supervision and constant consultation.

Funds raised will be used to upgrade the Student Health Center in the following ways:

  • New adjusting tables to offer a consistent experience for the interns and student patients
  • Two case-study learning areas where instructors can use the college’s Apple technology teaching tools
  • Titronics Instrumentation and Adjustment Simulators to hone chiropractic adjusting skills
  • A centralized faculty workstation to keep faculty accessible to interns as they learn

These improvements to the Student Clinic will allow for a greater number of interns to care for their patients throughout the day, with modern equipment along with upgraded technology for learning,” said Director of the Student Clinic Claudia E. Seay, D.C. “It will expand our ability to serve as a clinical setting with the capability to enhance new interns’ learning opportunities.”

Once interns complete their Student Clinic experience, they move on to working with outpatients from the community. Sherman College interns conduct more than 30,000 visits each year, serving residents in Upstate South Carolina with excellent chiropractic care at very affordable prices. The chiropractic clinic is located on Sherman College’s campus at 2020 Springfield Road in Spartanburg.
